quartz composer retriggering

I have an issue when using quartz files. They work when I trigger them for the first time but often if I trigger something else on the same layer and then I go back and retrigger the quartz cell it doesn't work and I have to drop the quartz clip on the cell again for it to work. Any idea what causes this and how to resolve it?

I've also found that with some quartz patches when you go back to them they don't start from the beginning but remain at the stage they were at when last used.

I've had this happen too occasionally, I just drop the clip in again, most of my qtz use syphon, maybe that might be an issue?
