Freeze Crash, Arena 7.22.3 and Alley

Post by mkbMW »

I am working with a new computer build that cost a pretty penny, unfortunately the machine has been crashing quite often and I am working with the vendor to trouble shoot this issue. However, Resolume Arena 7.22.3 is the only program really running.
The Composition and Media is the same that was used on my outdated machine with no crashing or freezing issues.

Arena tends to freeze randomly when I am saving presets, or "Save and Close" Advanced output.

Alley crashes reliably when I hit "Queue x File"
When I run Alley as administrator, it will convert the file then freeze, then disk runs at 100% without showing anything using disk.

Arena 7.22.3
Windows 11 Pro
Nvidia Quadro RTX 5000 Ada Generation
Threadripper 7970X
64gb DDR5 6000MHz ECCR RAM

I see you sent us some crash reports,
The Arena reports end in the nvidia driver.
Do you have the Studio driver version installed?

Alley might have trouble writing to disk.
Check virus scanners, Windows protected folders and ransomware protections, that Alley is allowed to write to the disk.

The whole machine getting unresponsive, could point to a driver or hardware issue, make sure overclocking is disabled.

As for Arena crashing, I installed the “Conservative driver” and ran Arena a couple days with only about one crash per day.
I then installed the “Studio driver” yesterday before show time and crashed twice, once before show and once during show.

I wonder if there is anything specific about the RTX Quadro Ada drivers that could be causing this?

Besides the crashing, everything runs really nicely. VRAM never sees above 50%, and mostly steady 60 fps except for occasional dips when changing clips or decks.

Open to any help on this as it’s pretty big issue with live shows. Thanks

The last Arena Crash report I see from you is about the nvidia driver crashing, handling Wire texture buffers.

Do you have a specific patch which you see the crash with often?

The crashes seem to happen quite randomly, I think the last time it was when I was just switching decks.

I don't use Wire. Could this report happen even though I don't use wire directly?

I do use the built in generative sources from the sources tab, and effects on clips.

Hard to say, as it's the driver crashing.
If you see it again, please send the crash report again and drop us a mail to mai@resolume.com
maybe we can see something more specific.
Thanks!
