Midi dropping / Arena crashing

Post by pixelpusher510 »

I had an issue last weekend where Arena dropped my midi. I was able to turn it off and on again and it would work for a few moves but then would stop working again. I tried another midi controller and it did the same thing, so it definitely wasn't the midi. I have a brand new computer, so I'm hoping it's not the USB C ports, but if it is, I'd like to know sooner rather than later so I can get it addressed while under warranty. Arena also crashed during my set, but in hindsight, I think I've been told one of the clips in my composition was corrupt, so maybe that caused it to crash? But would it make the midi quit working too?

Everything worked fine when I got home and tried it again, so I'm stumped.

I have two shows this weekend, so would like to make sure this doesn't happen again. Fortunately, I can avoid the bank of clips that may have a corrupt file in it (how does one narrow down the corrupt clip, anyway?). But what caused the midi issue?

Hard to say what might have gone wrong there.
The usb3 connectors on the macbooks are pretty easyto bump, or have shaken by bass. Very small contacts.

Play them

Are they DXV video clips?

There is an issue we know of with mp4/h264 on macs, they can hang Arena.

Hi Zoltan,

Thanks for your reply, but I did go through and make sure that all the cables were seated properly, so I don't think the USBc was the issue. I used the whole setup a week earlier for an entire show without any incidents. The only difference was the additional clips that I had added for that particular event.

And regarding the clips, they were all DXV encoded files. :-/ I didn't get a chance to systematically go through all the clips, but all of the ones I tried seemed to be working. I'll see if i can go through them with a more thorough process today.

Thanks,
-Sabina
