vvFFPP basic an softluma

Post by tim.krieger »

Hi!
I asked this before, but unfortunately noone had an answer for me..

I really like to work with multiple layers, so I need to key or to use transparency a lot! Sadly, I dont seem to have found the perfect way to do so. When unsing aftereffects, all my animations seem perfectly transparent inside the program. (lets say, a bouncing clownsface, already cropped in photoshop). I export it using the recommended settings (cinepak, highest quality, 1 keyframe), but resolume will draw an ugly white line around the face when using inverted luma or other settings. What is the best way to export files out of aftereffects for resolume?

thanks for all replies!

It's because the transparency is not preserved in the codecs normally used for resolume. Cinepack is filling in the transparent area white.

I'm reckoning the blocky cinepack compression causes this to not be a smooth area of white either (especially at the edges of your graphic), hence the ugly lumakeying. Try the other recommended codecs - I can lumakey perfectly fine (using vvfpsmoothlkey) with MJPEG at 80% quality, and MJPEG is virtually lossless at 100% quality if you can put up with the filesize.

Lumakeying is nothing to do with transparencies though.

There is a big thread on preserving transparency (alpha channel) here...

there's plenty general codec info all over the forum

Hi continuity-B !
Thanks for the reply. I was reckoning that there was a problem with cinepak..
Another thing: I just can't install vvfpsmoothlkey. I tried it serveral times, with both versions offered on the homepage. I even copied the files directly into the plugins folder after the installer installed them in some subdirectory. No use.
I deleted the fx.dat file like the readme asks you to, and some plugins like the smooth threshold do appear in my filters list, but not the smoothlkey file. Any suggestions?
btw. i'm using resolume 2.3 on a medion notebook centrino with xp home edition..

thanks!

I just tried to install it again, and there is an errormessage:
error opening file for writing: c:\windows\system32\msvcr71.dll

is that the problem??

OK, I got it right this time..
it's a little confusing, first of all, the softluma-plugin doesn't show up in the freeframelist but in the layer effects menu, plus, you do have to copy the files directly into your plugin-folder after the installation (no subdirectories!) now, it works beautifully. happy keying, and thanks!
