Resolume with FL Studio 5 as midi controller

Post by continuity-B »

I'm trying to get Resolume to accept midi out from FL Studio 5 - I'm a MIDI novice beyond assigning controllers to things.

Anyway I set up a test midi out track to rythmically trigger a clip in the active layer (as far as I can tell). Resolume IS recieving the signal because the midi assign appears to work fine (the note played displays correctly whatever I choose to assign it to) but in practice Resolume doesn't respond to the signal at all.

I'm using MidiYoke to patch the midi signal.

Am I missing something in FL Studio or Resolume?

Thanks

PROBLEM SORTED

I bumped the output channel from 1 to 10 and everything works!

This is amazingly simple now, can draw waveforms to automate faders and everything.

how fast is resolume running with FL in the background?
Are there system speed or RAM usage issues?

Virtually no slowdown

I lost a few fps (maybe 5) with 3 layers but it all ran fine on my modest laptop. Was up all night trying out stuff! And I'm STILL running clips off my main system drive.

*ONLY* 4200rpm drive (works FINE!)

You can draw waveforms to animate ANY assignable parameter or use the timeline patterns to trigger clips etc.

I used a simple rythmic pattern to bypass/unbypass a layer (esentially cutting) which worked really well

It has a beat tapping function too so everything works in time to your music

I've been procastinating with abelton for months but this just looks sooooo much simpler.

I'm drunk right now, so apologies, but suffice to say it fucking rocks with resolume!!!!

which version of FL are you using? the XXL version, the FruityLoops Edition .. ?
Cause the complete FL Suite looks quite complicated to me.

Not sure if it's the suite, I got it off my musician mate to try but I'm only using the Fruity Loops sequencer bit anyway (I think).

I know nothing about this kind of software. Trust me, it's very very very very simple to use with Resolume.;)

sounds good ;)

cause we all know, what resolume is really lacking of is a sequencer!

it sounds like it would be really useful thing to work with..

how do you work with it FL?

alt+tab for switching tasks or multidisplay?

I Just run it in the background of my primary display, although dvd-max is necessary so that you can minimize resolume without stalling the output. Doesn't impact my fps greatly either and my systems not that beastly.

So there's no way to do it without DVD-max (i.e. Matrox AFAIK)
