Need to convert hundreds of clips!

Post by doublerig »

Greetings,
I am an independent media producer about to use resolume for the first time. I have literally thousands of little clips I could use, but they are all DV, (720x480 NTSC) and seem to chug a bit when I try and play them back through resolume. (especially with filters)
My question is, what format do you prefer, and is there a batch processor, or some other way, to convert all these clips for use in resolume easily?

Thank you all so much for all your help in advance,
David

the first thing to do is take a look at the manule which has the best formats to use.

as for batching my fav is using virtualdub ( http://www.virtualdub.org/ ) via dub man ( http://dubman.sourceforge.net/ ) very easy to use. oh did i mention that both are free.

hope that helps. :)

hi doublerig,
virtualdub is certainly a good choice. it's free and it's batch processing is perfect.
although it wil take you some time to get used to the interface. Not everything is as clear at first sight.

for converting clips i would go for a 640x480 resolution in your case. (your used to high resolutions) and use an Mjpeg or the Indeo codec .
we especially like the morgan mjpeg codec, quality is great and it's very fast at compression and decompression. The compression is so fast it wil save you a lot of time coverting your clips.
Mjpeg is a bit slower at playback, cinepak is the fastest (and the ugliest) and indeo is in between.
Resolume. 2.4 wich will be released soon has greatly improved playback speed and running 640x480 will run much faster then in 2.3

Cheers
Edwin
