Just let it all out, buddy. You're among friends here.

Hi all,

2 questions for you people. We have upgrading our setup to dvd resolution. Of course we also need to upgrade the quality of our movie clips. But i get very poor performance with clips higher then 320x240. We really would like to use full Pal resolution... Is the high res. playback in Beta 4 much better? Haven't had the time to download it yet :)

Second question. What is the performance with Matrox cards? At the moment we only use Nvidia cards.

Hi per-i

i use a matrox g550 - performance is fine using 320x240 clips. I don't think there is any card currently that will do consistently high frame rates at higher resolutions (640x480 or bigger).
I have trialed a geforce4 4600Ti which ran 3 layers at 640x480, but slowed down with effects on, and the movies i used had fairly low data-rates.
I dont know if anyone has tested a matrox parhelia or geforce FX, but i think in the not-too-distant future we'll be seeing some high end cards that can run at the resolution we want. - I'm saving my money til then...
(i currently mix high res movies off disc with (low res) resolume bits and camera)

I've run 3 events (all over 3 hours) on the new beta3 with no problems. Most clips are 640x480, Indeo5.1. No slow down on framerate at all. With effects on all channels. P4 2.0, Ti4400 (128DDR), Ultra160 drives.

Super stuff!

I use 2 layers of full res dv-pal (720x576) with effects,
rendering at 400x300, output at 800x600, perfect, 30 to 35
fps, this means no rendering out of premiere, and high quality results, I'm on a Athlon XP2000, with GF4 4200 OTES, dual head (svhs out, yeah baby!!) The results will be even better when i install a raid array, as hard drive speed is the limiting factor at the moment.
This is on a very custom tweaked, perfomance orientated Win XP system. And i hav'nt even started overclocking yet!!!
The Resolume Crew Rocks!!

damn! how do you get so much speed?
I can't get above 320x240 without slowing down.
I have Athlon XP2000+, 512Mb DDR 266, IBM 7200rpm ATA100 HD, GeForce2 mx twinview, most clips in Indeo at 100% quality.
Is my weak point in the graphics or the disk or the codec (or what?), different peoples' posts seem to conflict on this.

in your case, it´s the graphic card. theres an enormous difference between a gf2mx and a gf4ti or a ati 8500-9700. you really should think about getting a new card. by the way: think about gf4, i wouldn´t recomment an hercules card (mine is a FDX8500 with 64 meg) , because mine chops the picture very ugly if the frame rate is too high.

P.S. Bart & Eddie: Could you implement a function that only allows 25 or 30fps ?
Greetings
