Can't hear audio

I am new to this program and vj-ing in general. I can't seem to get the audio to work: all is silient. What am i missing? I think it is just a simple thing and not anything about video cards, processor, etc...The manual does not really talk about getting audio started....I am running the 2.0 version but I had the same problem with 2,4.
PS Can I upgrade? How much $? Is it worth it as I will be doing really simple stuff....?

resolume does not playback audio, thats why it doesnt work

and the upgrade is free as far as I was aware.

hi,
open a musicfile in mediaplayer/cdrom drive.
and you have to practice a lot to get the visuals in sync to the beat(bpm,audio analysis)
maybe you have to check audio FFT in preferences.
