Codecs.. help...ASAP.. please....

Post by ramirezz »

Hi everyone... I am new to VJing and new to resolume...
I apologize in advance if I don't use proper terms, that you are all used to.. you will forgive me... I will get better with time, I promise...
;)
I have my first party performance on 02.17.2007. and I have some problems/questions.
I want to make sure my system don't crash and that everything else is working good. So...
1. what is the best codec pack to use? why?
2. what is the best format (compressions or whatever you call it) for my clips? i read on this forum something like this: "the codecs that work best are MJPEG codecs (encode at 80%) and the Indeo codec. Cinepak works by far the fastest but the quality is bad."
3. can you recommend anything other than Cinepak? if yes, why?
4. what program would you recommend for fallowing operations:
- converting from rm to avi
- converting any video format to any video format (if not one for all, then a few that encompass all)
- advance video editing (vegas, premier, after effect, etc)
- basic editing - making them shorter - taking only parts of larger files and making smaller clips (something like Virtual Dub)
5. Do you have any other in mind that you think it would be crucial when it comes to my system settings (drivers, codecs, etc.)?

Thank you all for any help you can give me...

Sincerely,
the newest addition to VJ community
