Midi control improvements
I have recently upgraded to Ableton Live 6 and some of the new midi control features would be great in resolume. I use a evolution x-session controller because its small and light but it only has fixed rotaries which can cause problems when switching banks (1 for mixing, 1 for fx). The controls jump when they recieve messages that dont match the last value so some different takeover modes would be great. The on screen controls could wait until the midi value was equal before reacting to the movement almost eliminating the problem. Timing could be tricky but with practice this would lead to smoother mixes. Also how about being able to assign more than 1 parameter to a controller, invert the controls and set ranges for each so complex control systems could be built up. Curves for how controls react rather than linearly might be useful as well.
+1 here.. but I guess we need MIDI In for that, don't we ?Originally posted by Manwell

Midi In is not essential, I use my X-session via USB. The problem is that I dont have enough rotaries to control everything I want to. When using the 16 controllers to change the opacity and speed of decks etc. I dont have enough knobs to control global effects and other parameters. For example, if I mix in a clip to 30% opacity then switch to controlling effects and raise the global effect opacity of slot 1 to 100% using the same knob. I can then switch back to clip mixing and mix out the 30% clip but the knob is still at 100% on the controller, when I move the knob the deck opacity jumps from 30% to 90(ish)% before I can turn the knob far enough. With Ableton's system the on screen control would wait until I turned the knob to 30% before reacting to the midi signal eliminating the problem. I dont know how difficult it would be to implement but it would be an incredibly useful addition.
Sorry for the lengthy explanation
Sorry for the lengthy explanation
I havent used the BCR 2000 but I have heard they are amazing for the price and I am considering buying one. I thought that the knobs on the BCR are endless so there is no control jump when changing banks. Maybe you have to set the control type to endless instead of fixed for each knob in resolume's midi control setup page. Can anyone else confirm this? because if I get a new midi controller I would like forget about the relative positions of physical and virtual controls and get on with some serious mixing!
