how layers work in resolume

Post by armitageshanks »

i love the fact that you can get quite advanced with different blending modes in resolume but what i wish is that:

a) you could have more than three layers
b) that it could be possible to apply multiple effects to a single layer
c) being able to cue up a set of clips (with effects applied etc) and then crossfade (like you can in modul8)

any possibility of these coming in the next version?

cheers,

A and B are clear but could you explain C a bit more? Do you want the cued clips to play back to back with a short fade as a transition?

a vjing friend of mine who uses modul8 was showing me around his software.

basically you have two decks (think of them as dj decks), each with five layers. these decks are capable of everything you can do in resolume (apart from the fact they have five layers). so you can set up to five layers with different clips, layers, inputs etc on one deck and a completely different set of layer(s) on the other deck and then simply crossfade between the two.

the other thing modul8 has is that you can make preset decks and just drag those in which is a pretty neat feature.

hope this makes things clear.

all the best,

yes what i like about modul8 too is that you can fade from one 'composition' to the other, the current resolume interface it not suitable for this but it definitely has our attention.

cool. good to know you know if you know what i mean!

just downloaded the vdmx beta. definately has some nice features that you may want to have a look at.

for example, really like the way that you can create your own layout and i like the way that you can group layers too. preview windows for each layer is pretty neat. but best of all is the ability to save presets.

the interface, however, is bloody awful which is shame because it renders it almost unusable in a live situation...

really hoping resolume 3 will pick up some of these features because that would make it unbeatable. guessing the difficulty is to pack in all these features while keeping the interface simple.

cheers,
