About Quicktime clips...

Post by vjBrye »

Ok so I know that mov's are not the best to use in resolume but heres something I'm scratching my head about. On my last xp build I had .mov's working as good as indeo/mjpeg/cinecrap .avi's, meaning their performance in resolume was comperable... no lag during thumnailing and browsing preview... no lag when loading a clip into a dec and mixing multiple movs.

Now, with a recent os reinstall my mov's are useless... tooooo sloooow. Tried quicktime alternative and the latest official quicktime, both with lousy results.

Anyone know any tricks to optimize quicktime files?

I might add that not all .movs work great before... but the ones with common avi codecs (cinepack), and even sorenson were workin ok... (I have my old .mov's divied up into separate folders based on codec) and after all... isn't .mov more of a container for a video file? I know that I have converted .mov's based on cinepak to avi files without reencoding (im forgetting how now of course)... If it's a common codec between windows and mac, they can be converted. mostly had to do with changing the header of the file or something...

So if a .mov is many times just another codec in a .mov wrapper, why shouldnt res be able to handle these .mov's properly?

You wouldn't happen to have Nero installed before, right?

When you install Nero Burning ROM and Nerovision express, it installs a Quicktime splitter and various codecs, that allow Quicktime to play through DirectShow. This works very well for me - better than the native QT support in most applications.
