resolume won\'t open avi files

Post by kiwii »

Hello!
Please help me with my ( noobish i hope so :) problem!

I'm very new in veejay and so i'm resolume newbie, too. I have quite simple problem, witch i just don't know how to solve! I checked this forum, vjforums.com, resolume manual, painting with light manual and i wasn't able to find any solution! So i am sorry if this question was allready asked or covered, but i couldn't find it!

I downloaded 2.41 here in download section and modified my avi files in virtualdub. I done all of this ( modifying, converting, setting.. ) step by step following "painting with light" manual. But when i try to drag .avi file from resolume browser to a deck/clip i just fail. No error message, no loading - nothing. It just seems like nothing happens.

The only thing witch i have different frotm that PWL manual is, that i use only my laptop monitor ( don't have second connected - not avaible right now ).

Thank you for your answer and interest!
Have a nice day

If you've installed the K-Lite codec pack, chances are you've installed an alternative version of the AVI Splitter. Many of these give problems with Resolume.

Get the G-Spot Codec Information Appliance (http://www.headbands.com/gspot/) and use it to open your AVI file. It will give you an info panel about the file. At the bottom, there are options to try rendering the file. Do this. Pay attention to the first filter in the render chain, which should be <blah blah blah> Splitter. If it is anything other than the bog standard AVI Splitter, you might have trouble.

Go the Control Panel and/or whatever setup utility K-Lite uses, and REMOVE anything like Open Source AVI Splitter or Haali Media Splitter. Then, try again.

i'm very happy for the answer! Thanks you a lot. I tried it as u said and it seems its not that problem. The filter is AVI Splitter. I hope ill be lucky with finding klite setup utility and ill check it there for these another filters, anyway. But when i am rendering it says AVI Splitter as 1st filter ( Then IndeoVIdeo 5.10 )

So i'll be happy for any other ideas, but still thank you for your answer and advice. Thx

sometime this can happen if a codec is missing (like divx or xvid)

try installing FFD show http://sourceforge.net/projects/ffdshow-tryout/

thanks for another advice, but still it doesnt helped :-/ :-(

I couldn't find KLite control center. Just some kind of KLite Codec Tweak Tool, but i think, that it wasn't what i was looking for. No AVI Splitters to disable :o).

I have another info about the problem:
My Screen setup does not safe. Every single new start i must set that up again and again. I don't mind ( for now :) ) just if it works. The problem is still that i grab the file, point it over the clip ( the icon next to arrow change to blank sheet of paper ), and release => nothing happens! :-(

Hi Kiwii,

My first post! I saw this question, I had to answer it :)

I had the same problem this weekend, and because of the little time I had (saturday I had a gig), I decided to re-install Windows XP.

So I did, and it worked, all problems were solved.

So my advice is, how stupid it may seem, re-install Windows XP (I had an automated Windows XP install DVD made with nLite, integrated SP2 & RyanVM update pack & all driverpacks).
After that I installed the Pegasus MJPEG Codec. Then I installed the K-Lite Mega codec pack, version 3.3.5. Look carefully that you do not install this package with default options. I choose the "Playback only" install template, and changed the options so that no avi splitter was installed.
Then install Resolume.

Good-luck, let me know if it worked!

Ok! Good luck!

Another advice, make an nLite Windows XP install cd. And make sure you set all options, so that when installing you don't have to answer all the installation questions. Saves you time.

Last advice, whenever you have a working Windows XP, do not change anything, first make a Ghost image. Then you can always go back to that image, if something went wrong.

I'll see your post in a couple of days ;)

Greetings

If you don't want to reinstall Windows, go to this page:

http://www.inmatrix.com/articles/mediasetup3.shtml

and follow the instructions for "A Clean Start" - they will reset your Windows media playback configuration to the defaults.

In general, the Inmatrix setup instructions are very good.

I would suggest installing a minimal set of codecs manually - ffdshow might be all that you need.

If you use a codec pack, don't use K-Lite. Use the CCCP codec pack instead:
