playback problem

Post by 1mpar »

I have a problem with resolume when I'm playing with my laptop.
I click on a loop. It plays fine. If I click on another few seconds later it loads smoothly, but if there is a long time interval between two clicks (more than a minute for example), when I click the next clip the output freezes for a while (less than a second).
Does someone have this problem? If so, what is it related to: processor speed, memory, videocard?
On my desktop it doesn't happen.

My laptop: Centrino 1.6 1G ram ati 9700 128M dedicated memory
Desktop: Pentium D 3G 2G ram ati X1600 256M dedicated memory

most likely your hardrive, did you defrag recently? that might help. An external drive is also usefull.

I changed the harddrive recently, but it still happens.
Maybe it's about the HD's speed.
Mine is 5400RPM. Could this be the problem?

I'm thinking about bying a new laptop. If this problem happens in all 5400 HD, should I look for a 7200?

About the external HD. A 7200 USB external HD would be fine? Or a firewire would be better?

Yes 7200 rpm is faster then 5400.
If your laptop has firewire 800 then go for that, if not USB2 is usually faster then firewire 400.

Thanks for the answer, Bart.
I'll make some tests with an external hd to see if this is the problem.

Hi guys,

I have the exact same problem as 1mpar described above.

My rig is a P4 3.2 HT / 2gb RAM / ATI 9000 128 shared

Speed and ram probably couldn't be the problem. The reason would be then my internal hd, wich is below 5200 rpms, but I´m using an external 250gb HD, wich is a 7200 rpm over usb 2.0. All my video files are stored in there.

I´m using only avi files, with the picvideo mjpeg codec. Although, it happens with small files like images (jpegs) and SWF´s.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Jonathan

I will put the videos on internal HD to test if is the USB external HD.

Hi,
I have the same problem - after an hour or so, Resolume tends to slow down and freeze the output when loading a new clip to a layer or loading a new deck.
I also have a problem with Resolume crashing constantly after 5 - 6 hours of being used (kills Windows XP with a BSOD). The CPU temp raises to 60 deg. Celsius, but the overheat level is about 100.

My laptop is a Toshiba Satellite with a Core Duo T2700 CPU, 1 GB RAM, ATI MobilityRadeon X1600 and an external HDD/USB2.0.

I would appreciate if anyone could investigate this problem,
Sending kind regards.
