Help please

Hi to you all!
I'm a video artist that is trying to teach her brother to do some vjying.
The thing is: i've never done it (ok, i know want you're thinking...)
My biggest question is, besides a laptop and a vj software (he will use resolume), what is needed more: a data show, a mixing table (is that essencial?), sorry, help me

For starting a laptop and resolume is enough. When you get a litlle more experienced you can add dvd players, midi controllers or an extra laptop

a handy midi controller is really recommended. i tried an evolution uc-33 wich is not ideal for resolume, still it is cool and you can work much faster and more spontaneous as when using a laptop alone. really worth a try.
