Keystone

Post by Q_The_Monkey »

Was at the Mapping Festival at the weekend. I saw some really interesting things but the ones that really stood out for me were related to keystoning. One was software by MXWendler that had an amazing keystone engine that not only allowed traditional linear perspective keystoning but also allowed for 3D keystoning to map onto shapes such as cubes and organic keystoning to map onto spheres. It even allowed for the keystoning of multiple layers using one projector or the blending of multiple outputs (like a Hippotizer). The organic keystoning allowed you to pull pinch points on the grid overlay to map images onto irregular/uneven surfaces. You could also paint out where you didn't want any projection image to be with the masking tool. It was amazing and allows for fantastic possibilities.

So, will there be any keystone features in the next release of Resolume? Any if so how advanced and customisable will they be? I think this sort of feature is a real necessity for progressing visual setups and installations and allows for advanced professional and theatrical applications.

It would also save a hell of a lot of time in setup. If you are going to be adding a keystone feature please don't have it's functionality the same as the crap basic functions you get on most projectors :D
