Resolume 3... what machine spec is needed to run it?

ok, on the Mac side its simple enough.... mac book pro would obviously be best because of the dedicated graphics card.

but how about the pc side of things?

i know its open GL for Freeframe 1.5 ... so a dedicated graphics card would be best.

But what about processor? does it use multiple cores and is there a minimum suggested speed?

im buying a new laptop in the next couple of weeks and it would be great to be able to buy a machine with Resolume 3 in mind.

Im running the beta version on a laptop G4 with 2gb ram. The menus doesnt work and the output monitor doesnt work either. could be for it???

If you want the least hassle get a MacBook Pro, they run osx AND windows and we develop Resolume 2 and 3 on these machines and they run just fine.

If you're looking for a pc, make sure the GPU has dedicated VRAM, not shared with the RAM, we prefer ATI because with the excellent Omega drivers you can get easy access to options like overscan and even set the output resolution to PAL or NTSC on the TV-out.

Also make sure your new latop runs Windows XP Pro NOT Vista, Resolume 3 will run on Vista but it's boatware, XP is faster and more stable.

Vista is indeed boat(bloat)ware and reigns surpreme in that arena. Sadly, for laptops these days it's getting .. well .. troublesome. Laptop OEM graphics chipsets that are Vista compliant from Nvidia (haven't checked ATI/AMD yet) are found to only have DirectX 10 / Vista support. Nvidia has stated there will be no drivers for XP or earlier. So watch out what kind of laptop you get, as you may be stuck in the land of Vista by default. I support 150+ users by day, and have many of them come to me with newly purchased HP/Compaq, Toshiba and Acer machines that are woefully stuck with Vista. Now, you could hack your way through a derivative of Linux... or try your hand at making a Hackintosh, but Linux won't give you software support, and Nvidia drivers under OSX won't give you tv out 80% of the time. So it's a conundrum. Early next month Apple will be releasing 'something' that is rumoured to be a cheaper laptop. Perhaps we will see more affordable powerful options. One can only hope.
