Semi Transparent Screen ??

Post by fargo »

Hi guys, its my first time here - i have a question regarding a screen i saw.

I want to build a semi transparent screen that can display a projection on both sides as well as beeing semi transparent so you can see through it to some degree.

You can see something similar in this Nine Inch Nails video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=to6i3vR9 ... re=related

I can build the support and a metal frames myself but dont know what type of material to use for the screen. I dont know if its plastic based or textile or something totally special. Does anybody have any ideea regarding this ? i dont need it to be perfect in contrast and light.

Thanks for reading ;) :geek:

I have onces used a semi transparant plexiglass version with no frames wich looks pretty cool, but difficult to handle and expensive,

What you are looking for is a scrim, a very light fabric. You can get it at stores that sell materials for curtains and such. If you want very large pieces, then a theater/photo/film supplier will be better.

A scrim is definitely the way to go... http://www.studio-productions-inc.com/set_home.html For a cheaper and not quite transparent method, you can always look at plastic Mylar. Just be aware that it's not the best for an outdoor event ;) The wind will get you every time. heh ;)
