SUGGESTIONS: A few ideas to improve R3

Post by craftycurate »

(Apologies if I already posted this but I can't find it on the forums)

Some suggestions for R3 Avenue:

Borderless fullscreen mode for control screen (like in Resolume 2) - more screen "real estate" on a typical widescreen laptop screen, and also the XP blue border is distracting against the black screen.

More folder shortcuts in File Browser - A\B is OK but could do with a "Favourites" kind of system - finding files fast in a live situation can be helped a lot by this. e.g. Video Clips, Flash Anims, Still images, WAVs etc could all have their own bokmark

Why not have an option to add folders to the Directory Chooser?

ii) Smaller text - would be good to view more files

Speeding up Deck Loading
The loading of deck thumbnails might be speeded up a lot if the "Clip Properties" was not updated for every clip as it loads. Instead, update the Clip Properties for whatever clip is selected once the deck has loaded.

I switch decks a lot in live use, so this would be very useful.

Shift-Q (set cue point) is very close to Ctrl-Q which quits the application - is Ctrl-Q necessary?

Thanks
Richard

> Borderless fullscreen mode
This is on our todo list.

> More folder shortcuts in File Browser
We thought about this but for now we want to keep it simple.

> Speeding up Deck Loading
The deck loading is threaded at a delberately low priority as to not cause any glitches in the playing videos.

Good call. We,ll probably add an "Are you sure" dialog like Resolume 2 has.

It needn't be complicated, or take up any more space on screen. Following the Ableton Live model, you add an "Bookmark this Folder" on the bottom of the Directory Chooser menu, and any Bookmarked Folders are added to that menu. That's it!

The current system is more than halfway there already, since you have a menu with two directories on it - "C:" and "My Documents".

And a "Remove This Folder" too.

Fair enough ... but the thumbnails in the File Browser load very quickly once they have been created ... is this a different system to the deck? Are deck thumbnails recalculated each time the deck is loaded?

First, great stuff with r3
1 question: in the future are we going to see maybe a timeline ? so you can put different clips to play one after another with cue points and loop point and maybe the possibility to specify which track on the timeline goes to which output ?
2 question: is it going to be supported in r3 like it was in R2 the possibility to select a layer only for an output?

Yes it's a different system, the clips loaded in the deck are opened allready so that triggering is much faster.
The thumbnails for the filelist are just read from thumbnail files.
In Resolume 2 clips were opened the moment you connected them to a layer. So deck loading is slower, but the clip triggering is much faster.

1: A timeline is indeed an interesing feature but we will not focusing on bug fixing and other basic and promised features first.
2: Resolume 3 works different and has a much better system then Resolume 2 for directing layers to different screens. Just setup a wide composition and span it across screens. You can easily position clips and layers across your composition.
