FPS drops dramastically after 5 mins of play help!

Post by fallengrace01 »

Hey there everyone,

Not sure if anyone else is getting this, but i get about 60fps on idle with resolume 3,
about 45fps for 1 layer playing
and about 25-30 for 3 layers playing. (All calculated with the demo footage supplied with resolume)

Now after about 5 mins of playing, the FPS drop drastically to about an average of 20 and lower, especially when changing clips etc....Now is this normal? Are there any settings to purge the cache in order to stop it from freezing up the RAM so quickly?

I'm running a Dell XPS M1530, 4 gig Ram, Geforce 8600 256MB, 7200 rpm harddrive, 2.2 ghz Core 2 Duo,

Cheers

at a guess, i'd say firewire 400 is not wide-band enough to deal with streaming 3 clips. mine does the same grinding slow down (from my secondary internal 7200rpm pata) when i load too many, but the grinding stops after a few seconds and the framerate rises again..

oh and do u have ur virus checker switched off? i know this used to be an issue..
does anyone happen to know if it's still the case with the new version?
as a general rule i try to close as many systray items as i can without making windows spew it..
the other thing is, get lots more high speed ram, and more on the graphics card.
it seems like ur getting the same issues i am, but given a certain excess of resources available like on my system, resolume can catch up and get ahead of the game. in ur systems case, maybe its maxed out on those 3 clips, and any time resolume tries to talk to the system, it hits a brick wall..
im not such a tech-head, but thats the way it makes sense to me...

Hi fallengrace01,
Could you check whether Resolume maybe has a memory leak. Start the task-manager and check wether the memory usage increases over time. So start a few clips, leave them running and check whether the amount of RAM Resolume uses gets bigger. A difference of a few MB's is normal. But more isn't.

FPS Dropping drastically* after 5 mins of play

Post by fallengrace01 »

Hey there Edwin

So the Frames are still dropping with AVIRA (Anti virus) disabled, I've checked the RAM settings and Avenue starts with about 60MB, and rises to a stable 82 with 3 clips enabled. Doesn't seem to be over consuming.

The CPU on the other hand (I can see its utilizing both cores) steadily rises from 50% occupation to about 85%, is that normal?

Still no idea why its becoming so laggy after a couple of minutes. very strange. This is on a fresh install of XP as well. Latest NVIDIA drivers from laptop2go, hmm

Cheers for your help (Aside from this little quirk, avenue is amazing)

Hi fallengrace01,
What kind of footage are you using, maybe that will give us a clou.
Are you using audio and video and in what kind of files?

Hello Hello

I've tried various footage, i first noticed this with the demo footage supplied with avenue (Transfered to an external HDD)

However for my own footage i use PICvideo Codec, 100% 1:1:1 quality, 768 x 576 square pixel. I understand this is a hefty drain on the system, but it seems to cope fantastically for the first couple of minutes. Ive noticed this happens in resolume 2.41 as well, but the effects are not to the extent of avenue.

Dell Xps M1530
Windoes Xp sp3
Core 2 Duo 2.2 GHZ (Not the Santa Rosa)
Geforce 8600 GT 256mb 179.13 drivers laptopvideo2go
4 Gig ram (with 3GB switch enabled)
160 gig 7200 rpm internal and 750 gig 7200 rpm external HD

UC33e Evolution controller
Mixman DM2

(does this sound like a system that should cope alright? I mean i might be overestimating what my system can handle?)

I've recently done a dualboot Vista, XP config on this system, so i'll give Vista a go. However throughout the forums i've gathered that Vista is credited to being a common problem in slowing Avenue as well, Might give a clue though!

Peace and Cheers Edwin! :D

Your setup sounds fine enough.
It's odd that that performance drops after a few minutes.
Please don't use Vista if XP is running fine in your machine. Resolume 3 works on Vista but i would not recommend it because we can't seem to get it running fast enough. So if there is no need don't install Vista just yet.
