Korg nanoSERIES ; nanoKEY nanoKONTROL

for those of you interested in the new korg nanoseries, i bought the key and kontrol. they seem to hold up well with resolume 2.4 (i still have not had a chance to try 3.0). i'm happy with them except that they are a bit fragile - knocked off a piano key already! and they do look/feel like "toys", but function like true midis.

yes, cute, but i just broke another piano key...sigh...

the nanokontrol is fine, the nanokey is irritating, and thus i have resorted to buying the korg microKontrol (older korg midi).

i'm sure the nanokey will be fine for some, as for me, well, i'm brutal with the piano, i always have been...so excited to try to microKontrol soon, REAL keys with REAL deepth, oauisssss-yeahhhh!

back to work, because "there's always work to do" (a certain ratio tribute)

If you're breaking the piano keys, have you tried the NanoPad instead?
Crossfader on the x-y pad and sturdier rubber buttons.
I have my set of 3 velcro'd together to stop the moving around so much - Kontrol at top, then Pad then Key.
Still working out how best to map the buttons on the Kontrol for R3 though...

yes, i'm aware of the nanopad and i choose not to buy because i didn't think i needed it. also, i just adore piano keys (i played a little piano when i was a kid) and i program the keys so i can play it like an instrument, although it's more like impressionist video painting, ha!

and yes, i use velcro pads under mine too because they do indeed move, especially if one is not to far from speakers and the bass is h e a v y !

Hi, I have also invested in the nanokontrol mainly for ease of portability. It does feel a little lightweight but so far I find it very usable.

I would also be very interested to hear how others have set theirs up, especially the buttons.

yes, lightweight indeed, and ideal for gigs via plane.

the buttons next to the sliders are soft yet durable and i use mine for "pause", "toggle (direction)" and "random" next to my "scratch" slider and "speed" et "step frame" knobs - that way i control motion in the same area, sometimes able to use 3 fingers on the 3 buttons at the same time, ha ha!

so far I've kept it fairly simple with the sliders controlling layer opacity, buttons controlling tap and resync and knobs controlling gain in fft.

I'd like to explore programming the buttons with the editor to gain more control over clips than merely triggering. I used to use an edirol keyboard to control clip triggering but found them quicker to select using the mouse and interface.

3 MORE KEYS BROKEN !!!

i had a VJ gig this past weekend and i broke 3 *more* piano keys on the nanoKEY (total of 5 broken keys now) !
while mixing, i grabbed some black duct tape to keep them in place and kept playing...well, kinda

can't wait until the korg microkontrol arrives, sigh...

i use the other sliders for layer and effects opacity too.
you know, everyone has a setup that fits their own needs

ps: i explored the editor and programming buttons too
