Avenue & Windows 7

Post by GuruMeditation »

I have been trying to test Avenue with the last beta of Windows 7 (beta 1, build 7000).
Resolume freeze on splashscreen, even in WinXP or Vista compatibility mode :( no way to unblock it, even with task manager, it do not want to close.
From the begining of my test, Avenue is the first software unusable on 7 :x
For information, Resolume run on my Vista partition, but at a very poor fps (15fps with one layer @640x480 mjpeg - even with all vista visual effects switched off).
Hope it will be ok with both the final Avenue / Seven versions

Windows 7 seems to be real powerful compares to Vista, this is the first beta and it run smoother than Vista on my machine (core2duo 2,4 ATI X1900, HD 7200RPM, 4Go RAM), and the new desktop/taskbar composition is great !

As a counter to your tests, I tossed Win7 on my machine with a spare 120 gig SATA drive and Res3 came up past the splash screen with no issues. I've yet to get my codec installed on the machine to test with my own clips, but the demo clips worked fine.

Overall, there seems to be some hope finally that MS will get a leaner more accessible OS together.

Code: Select all

My machine is as follows:

- Asus P5E-VM HDMI Motherboard
- Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 @ 3ghz w/ Zalman CNPS8000 Low Profile CPU Cooler 92mm

- BFG 9800 GTX + with 512 Meg
- Lots of SATA Hard Drives
- Texas Instruments IEEE-1394 (Firewire) PCI Card
- Onboard Sound, and Firewire PreSonus Firebox
- Acer 19″ Widescreen AL1916W @ 1440 x 900
- Silverstone SG04-H Case w/ Corsair HX520W Power Supply

I've also installed the testversion of Windows 7...

Both resolume 2.41 and Avenue work fine here... tested both programs for 2 hours now...
First I had some minor issues with flash.ocx in resolume 2.41 (windows doesn't come with flash anymore)
But after installing the flashplayer (and read some about copy/renaming flash10.ocx to flash.ocx....) it worked fine...

Also 2nd screen worked without any drivers installed.. Just plain Windows 7 and wdm drivers i guess... I didn't install any NVidia drivers @ the moment

PC specs:
AMD 64x2 4200+ / 4 Gb ram / windows 7 testversion Build 7000
NVidia 7600 GT

[edit] It's a brand new / clean install! Only browser and FTP program installed for now and some audio applications.

[edit2 15-1-2009] ok... tested a bit more... Last time (see story above) I did this test on windows 7. This was the 32 bit edition, and everything worked fine.
I also installed the 64 bit edition and now i'm getting some troubles.

-Resolume 3 avenue is running just as smooth as in the 32 bit version of windows 7 without any special drivers, just the wdm (version 179.xx) driver that's installed with windows 7.

-Resolume 2.41 is running fine in 64 bit edition of windows 7, also flash is working fine... BUT...
right mouse button isn't working, and when you try to exit the program, the popup dialog isn't showing.
Closing the program via the taskmanager seems the only way for now, but then the program will stay in the taskbar with empty windows.. really strange.
