DV Codec / Converting

Hi,
I am new to the world of VJ (but not to the world of video) and my personal "shortlist" for VJ Software is down to GrandVJ and Resolume. (Windows-Freak, MAC-Eater). Since I have the feeling that my personal workstyle would be better supported by resolume, my biggest issues is "ease of re-use" of my footage, that I already have. With GrandVJ, I could start working right away, focussing on the artside - with resolume, I researched for hours why the video stayed black and crashed.

All my footage is on avi format with DV-Codec. (This was also the culprit for the crash, I would have preferred an error message about wrong codecs). This is due to the fact, that I am using a firewire based digitizer for my old cameras) . (No, I don't buy a new one)
I would have to re-convert all my clips, which is a daunting task. In GrandVJ, I could use it with no touching at all. And I can't tell, why DV-Codec should be a bad thing.

So my question is:

No 1: Why is DV-Codec not good for VJ-ing?

No 2: What would I need to buy in terms of CODEC and batch converter to convert my footage into something usable by resolume?

You can do all your conversion with the freeware program VIRTUALDUB. The codec you should use is either the new quicktime DXV codec from Resolume, or the Indeo video codec 5.10 for avi which is also free. You can search for these on the internet, or if you have problems, send me a message.
Doing batch conversions is a little hard to figure out, but works great once you do.

ok. everything ok with virtualdub and a batch conversion in VD works perfect but....! Dear vjlococould you tell me how to export clips to DXVcodec with VD?

you wont be able to batch to DXV from VD but you can encode to indeo if you want to batch to DXV try

There is a issue with the Livid Batch Export DXV Converter with the sound !!!
(but i know it's better to have 2 differents files under Resolume 3: 1 for sound, 1 for video)

According to the other posts, converting to DXV is useful if you are working at high resolutions (above 640 x 480) but does not make much difference at 640x480. My tests confirm that.
