Midi makes me crazy :)

Post by js morgan »

Hi guys I want to set up the popular ableton resolume setup i.e using ableton lite as a sequencer driving resolume.

I have been pulling my hair out as I have had this setup working on my old system (XP) but now since I have changed to Vista I can't seem to get it running  if anyone knows of any issues or knows of a guide or tutorial I could follow that would be great for running this setup in Vista. I have tried midi yoke which shows up on my system but doesnt seem to link the apps when I output midi data from live to resolume. I have tried Maple as well but that crashes my machine. Currrently I am testing using ableton lite and maybe this is causing an issue i.e being a lite version it doesn't send midi out although it looks like it does :? .

Thanks for your time and I hope to reslove this as I have a gig in a month and need to sort out my midi patterns cheers guys James M (VJStrydar)

8-) Yeah.. there is a lot of spam on this forum.. Or to less moderation ;)

Registering to the forum should be a bit harder I guess. (captcha, activation e-mail)
A blacklist of some common WOW terms will also work here I guess ;)

PS. Volunteering for a moderator job if needed!

OK I have worked out that it is not posible to send midi data out from Ableton lite to resolume or I am missing something:). I have tested with the full version of ableton and it gives the output options needed to send midi data from live through midi yoke and into resolume I figure many of you know this but it may help some confused soul like me.

Are you using 64 bit midi yoke? it has to be if your using a 64bit OS. Maple is not 64 bit yet but I'm pretty sure that the latest version of midi yoke is 64 bit. (Well It's running fine on my 64 but OS here at least).

I don't think the problem lies with either Live or Res3.

Here is the easiest way to get Resolume working on a Vista system:

Dual-Boot Vista and XP. Run resolume on XP.

Or better yet, uninstall vista completely.

I just spent a whole weekend tweaking vista to accept midi from ableton on a second laptop. Problem after problem.

Then we dualbooted and ran it on xp.

found it ran ALOT faster (clip loads instantly instead of 5+sec, multiple layers running sweet without dropping frames)

plus running midi worked fine (we were using ethernetmidi (http://www.linuxsampler.org/ethernetmidi/) and a crossover cable)
