effects midi trigger

Post by 1mpar »

Hi,

is it possible to change via midi a specific parameter in only one effect at a time?
Like the "active effect slot parameter" in reso 2.4.

i've not recognized something like the active layer, i think cause of the new workflow...
you have dircet mapping, so you can link every parameter with composition mapping...
there is also not something as effect parameter 1.
it's a little bit sad it's no more here in resolume3, cause this made it really handy
otherwise, now you have the possibility to use extra layers for effects cause of layer effects, which makes r3 much more mighty :ugeek:

Yes, you can link all the effects parameters, but the problem is that I (and most vjs) got a limited number of knobs on my midi controller. That's why the 'active slot' feature in reso 2.4 was so important to me.

I bought a license of avenue, but I'm still using 2.4 because of this issue...

On some ( i think almost every) midicontroller you have a possibilty to make several "programs"/ "banks" of knobs. So for example on my Oxygen 8 I have 8 knobs and I make 8 programs gives me 8x8= 64 controls.
On my BCR2000 I can also make a lot of programs with different parameters per knob/per program. So you are not limited to the layout of yuor controller as is...

True, you don't have the "real" hands on control, (you have to switch between the programs) but you can probably make more controls than you think. (On the BCR this is very easy and i use it a lot)

Also... you can use different MIDI channels!? So controller 1 uses channel 1, controller 2 uses channel 2, etc etc...
(You're just limited by the amount of CC parameters i guess... but then again you can switch to the next midichannel?!)

*About the MIDIchannels I'm not really sure.. have to test that tonight... dunno if there is a possibility to link different channels, for example, make cc10 something else on channel 1 en 2... I think it's the same, but from a different controller.... mmmm.... more later...

Yes, GeeEs, if the controller allows you to make many banks you can make this way, although you'll loose some time changing from one bank to another. And in the previous version you could select the parameter you'd like to chance very fast with a mouse click.

I already work this way, but my controller doesn't have many banks, since I made it myself in order to fit to reso 2.4. So I made it with 5 knobs, one fader and 12 buttons to trigger the effects. With only 5 knobs I could change all the effects parameters, just by clicking on its slot in resolume. That's the feature I miss the most in the new version and it would be great if it could be implemented.

cool looking controller mate :)

for the markings next to the dials / fader / buttons - were they transfers of some sort or did you make them yourself? they realy make it look like a properly finished product :)

thanks air! :)

I made everything. Concept, design of the print image, position of the buttons, choosing the box, making all the holes to put the knobs and faders, and the programing in processing.

I printed the 'skin' on a adhesive paper and positioned it on the right place after putting together the electronic side.

It uses and arduino board and processing, but could be another soft like vvvv, max, etc.

ahhh, very sensible idea with the self printing, it looks realy good at takes it away from the "home made" feel that a lot of units have ! ( not that theres anything wrong with that, but nice looking kit looks..... nice )

im finaly going to get it together to make a controller for myself soon as i have enough spare cash at the moment to make one :)

If you make it with arduino it won't be expensive.
I spent: arduino ($35); wood box ($8); knobs/fader/buttons (about$30) / print ($3)

If you wish, I can send you the code.
It works perfectly, all night long...

indeed very cool looking controller!
I do understand the problem a bit more now... although.. you could think about another arduino based controller...
One special for Resolume 3 ;)
