Heya,
here's the guy with the notebook graphic chipset issues again :)

Let's try it that way:
What notebook/graphic chipset do you guys use?
Does everything work fine?
What about the mobile Gforce chipsets? Does the DualView option work probably or did you experience massive driver problems?

Sincerely Yours

AnotherFruit (who want's to buy a notebook that is suitable for resolume ... but there are soooooooooo many out there)

hi all,

why not buy a small desktop instead of a laptop?
checkout this link they've got nice comps for (sometimes) less money than a laptop and u can use your agp card an your capturecard aswell...

i second that superficial - we have a shuttle and a 15" LCD monitor that fits in a rigid suitcase i got from an OP-shop for $5 - with some cut-off foam for padding it's perfect!
It's great for travelling - the shuttle goes on the plane as hand luggage

thanx for that hint guys, but since i'm a student (that is continously running out of money), i need something portable to write my wordfiles with. buying both, a microPc & a notebook is not possible within the next time. so i guess i have to stick to the notebook idea -:)

btw. i visited a tiny but nice electronic music festival in austria (temp~) a few days ago and i found out that about 30% of the vjs were using notebooks there. (didn't see all the acts, so the percentage value may vary)
one girl used two cameras and i think one vhs-player for playback and a mixcomputer. she didn't use many video samples but it was a different style and cute in it's own way somehow. blablabla - cut.

Sincerely Yours

AnotherFruit (who's still looking for hints from vj's with notebook experience)

Hi,

I buyed an laptop for VJ purposes, but also to take an laptop with me. For my other bussiness ( IT, webdevelopment and designing stuff)

It was an Acer TravelMate 803 Cli. Because also it had an Centrino chipset. So +/- 6 hours without cables.

The Graphicscard is an Ati Radeon 9000. The S-Video out is perfect. I didn't see difference with my desktop PC.

I use my laptop (bought for combination work, home & vj. Its an excel notebook 5600 -P4 1.8Ghz ATI Mobility Radeon 7500. Works nicely with no extras. I run multiple feeds through firewire (1 built-in + 2 on pcmcia card) and usb for webcams. Flash overlayed on 2 video signals gives an adequate response. Lag is about 1/2 a second - could be nicer, but is fine for most purposes. (Try using lag with a screen-in-screen shot for effect, the lag chains up each picture looking really cool)

Anyway, buy a laptop, it looks more professional imho.

Have a great day
