The one feature that makes it difficult to use R3 live for me at the moment is the poor performance on deck switching, most notably the slowdown in frame performance, on my system anyway (Core 2 Duo 2GHz laptop, 2GB RAM, 7200 rpm HD, 256 MB NVidia 7900 GS).
I hope something can be done to improve this - I almost want to go back to the R2.41 days when files were opened when clicked rather than when decks were opened, but the best thing would be an improved deck switching in R3.
Some questions - hopefully Bart & Ed, you can offer some insights here.
1. Will smaller decks improve switching time drastically? Seems a shame since it's great to have 30 clips on screen at once.
2. Are files closed when leaving a deck i.e. switching to another one? If so, could they be left open?
3. Could thumbnails be held in memory, rather than loaded from disk each time?
I really hope this can be improved as it's a real issue for me at the moment.
Thanks, and keep up the good work
Richard

Speeding up Deck Loading
Win7 x64 Pro | 8GB | Nvidia Go 650M/2GB
Re: Speeding up Deck Loading
Yep... that is a huge issue for i guess alll of us. It's great that i can use it with f.eg. with th2go but this switching between decks makes me crazzy and impossible to use it live.
So please, please Bart & Ed - HELP US
For me... it can load longer, thumbnalils can be smaller... but please give us some answers how to improve frame drops when loading decks
F.eg.
in my situation (core2duo E8500, geforce9600, hdd 32cashe 7200rpm, 4gb ddr2 ram, winXP32bit with 3GB switch on, dxv codec and also picvid onboard) i get when when run 1 layer only drop from 48/56 fps to 1- 5 fps fo more than 5 seconds ( sometime less) when i'm switching decks. That makes it impossible to work with.
Ok. i know... the answer is to use all clips on one deck - But ... that it is not real answer for me and for i guess all of us, and this answer makes impossible to configure it correctly with midi controllers and stuff.
Please, please, please.

Re: Speeding up Deck Loading
We are researching where exacty the slowdown is happening so we hope to improve this asap.

Yep, me too. I was wondering if it was a lack of decent hardware on my part but it seems to be an issue on various platforms.
Does anyone reading this forum not get this problem? If you don't, can you drop the spec of your computer here so everyone else can take a look? Cheers.

Re: Speeding up Deck Loading
my problem was being exacerbated by a looping trigger in Live, which was trying to launch a clip from the new deck while it was loading. Now that I've removed that, things are much better. i don't get any black and with Live running two tracks in complex warp and one layer in res playing my frame rate drops from around 60 fps to 24fps.....this is with photo jpg at high quality. i'll try and test it with the dxv codec.

My old problem has now pretty much disappeared. I bought a 2.13 2mb Macbook (9400m graphics) and drop in frame rate is no longer a problem. I initially tested it also on a fairly recent iMac (20inch) with 2mb on an ATI card and it was solved also. All my files are in dxv format. Interestingly, even with dxv, drop in frame rate is still a problem on my vista based pc.

Re: Speeding up Deck Loading
Hi,
concerning this same issue of deck loading, i have experienced slower performance when long clips (+30secs) are loaded in the deck actually playing. I mean, not when playing that particular clip, but enough when existing on the deck.
Have anyone experienced this two? Have anyone came across a work arround? The footage is DVX encoded and in a low resolution 640x480. And myy laptop performs very well wth different clips.
Thanks in advance,
T
