PC= Minimun Changes for Avenue?

Post by djdiego71 »

I have Avenue running on a PC with an old Core2Duo E6750, 2 GB or RAM and a GeForce 8500GT.
An upgrade is necesary for a best perfomance, but without reinstall all software again is mandatory.
I can upgrade the cpu to a:
Core 2 Duo E8600 (3.33GHz,1333FSB,L2:6MB,65W,rev.E0)
or
Core 2 Extreme X6800(2.93GHz,1066FSB,L2:4MB,revB2)
or
Core 2 Quad Q6700 (2.66GHz,1066FSB,L2:2X4MB,rev.G0,4 cores)
or
Core 2 Quad Q9505(rev.R0,2.83GHz,1333FSB,L2:6MB)

And the memory is fine? Need more than 2 GB? 3 GB make any difference?

Finally: the GPU? Any suggestion?

Avenue is heavily GPU intensive software, so I would first throw some money on GPU power. The faster the better I guess. Just make sure it is using dedicated memory, not the ones that useshared RAM)
I'm running Avenu on a laptop (P7350 @ 2.00 GHz - 9600GT M - 4 GB RAM) and it's running fine. It's getting a bit hot after a few minutes, but it's keeping up really well. Don't know the speed of the 6750. I would aim somewhere in between the newest and what you have now, considering the prices. Quadcore isn't a bad choice here.

RAM is cheap, so I would definitely add up to 4 GB. Adding more than 4 GB won't help on 32bit systems.
desktop: Windows 7 home premium 64 bit, MSI 870A-G54, AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition, 4Gb RAM (GVP34GB1600C9DC), NVidia GTX 560
laptop: Windows 7 home premium 32 bit, Core2duo 2Ghz, 4Gb Ram, NVidia 9600m GT

OK, after a serius problem with two old cpu's assigned to work on LCDs bar (for promos & drinks price list) and some plasmas for minimun animations, now i'm going to buy a new system for the main stream (three projectors) then let this system for the rest (bar & plasmas).
My new cheap cpu will be this:
Pc Intel Core I5 750 (quad core 2.66 ghz 8mb cache) + Asus P7P55-LX + 1Tb hardisk + 4gb Ddr3 1800 + GeForce XFX 9500GT 1GB
Is a good jump in perfomance?

And another question, i will add at the old system another Geforce 8400 gs to use for multiple output (one layer to 4 LCD 19", other layer to 2 plasmas 42", and 3th layer for 2 LCD 32"), how I need to setup the output? or is more easy with resolume 2.41?
In resolume 2.41 need to use same resolutions output for all, can use different resolutions in Avenue?

you have the advanced output... there you can select the range of the composition output on every single screen (on a matrox dual/triplehead you have just 1 screen to adjust in avenue).
The new System looks fine expect the Graphics Card....
i would suggest at least a 9600 geforce or better for 3 screens (for higher resolutions... i think 1920x480 shoult also work fine on the 9500....)
MainSys: Z77 UP5,3570K,32GB Ram,GTX 285, M3 128GB,4x3TB R5@LSI9750
VJSys 1: 990FX UD5,X6 1045T,16GB Ram,GTX970+610+610,M3 128GB,3x1TB R0
MBP 3.1; Schenker A102 (650m) & P702 (675m)

The new system is for a sinlge output (1024x768), not for multiple output.

Don't forget that a weak cpu slows down every! gpu. So you really need to consider both. I think the nVidia 9xxx series works well with core2duo @ ~3GHz. You won't get any more frames using some quad core as resolume sticks to the gpu power (correct me if I'm wrong).

For example: I just recently overclocked a C2D 4300 from 1,8GHz up to 2,8GHz working with a GeForce 9800 GT. The result was a ~3000 Points plus in 3DMark 06 (I know it's testing GPU and CPU). Before going through all that trouble with setting up a new system (installing OS, spending money, etc.) I would first get a hand on some good cpu cooler (Skythe mugen...) and try to overclock. My E6850 runs prime stable @ 4.2GHz 50°C (Realtemp, G0 stepping > 100° tjunction).

At the end, my new system is used for multiple screens, the older refuse to work with two video cards (the system works, but Avenue not).
Ok, now:
Pc Intel Core I5 750 (quad core 2.66 ghz 8mb cache) + Asus P7P55-LX + 1Tb hardisk + 4gb Ddr3 1800 + GeForce XFX 9500GT 1GB & GeForce 9400GT.
The avenue is configured as well: composition: 2400x600, three outputs at 800@600,
screen 1: only with one layer for 19" LCD @ bars (price list)
screen 2: three layers (Text, Live Camera & Backgrounds) for wide projectors
screen 3: one layer, only backgrounds for 32" LCDs @ DJ Stage.

The performance is good but not excelent, some hevy flash content slow down framerate, but for now is well and the cheap usb capture card not was the best (not have a fluid performance) but is the only works on my system & avenue.
In the future may be change the two GPU...
...some suggestions?
