i'm finally buying a lappy after lugging my desktop round
currently i've a matrox g450 in my desktop, and love the dvd max capabilities of being able to retain the preview window and at the same time having an output to a beamer.
I'm looking at a lappy with an ati radeon 9000 64mb, and was wondering if the "theater mode" was available on this card , and would this be the same as dvd max?
If this card doesn't support this, is there any other lappy graphics card that does ?
any help would be appreciated as i don't want to make an expensive mistake......
theater mode on laptops
buy a shuttle and an LCD monitor for the same price
- that way you can choose your own graphics card etc.

(you can get a shoulder bag for the shuttle and an old rigid suitcase with foam for the monitor - safe and portable)

schuttle rocks!
hey Jim,
i think u should really consider the schuttle...
i bought a schuttle about a month ago and it really rocks!
its the (i think) sb61G2 and for about 1500 euros u got a really fast VJ-MONSTER.
i got the 3.0 (hyper threading)P4 1024 DDR RAM and a parhelia 256 graphics card but i think you'll cope with the 128 for vjing...
its got 6 USB2 and 2 firewire and 1 ethernet onboard.
its got 1 AGP and 1 PCI slot so that should be enough and if it isnt ASUS just got a card with 2 monitor outputs a S-VIDEO out and a TV-in all in 1 AGP-card.
and by the way ether... maybe we should start a schuttle fanclub or something
good luck!

or u can decide to use your "old" video card and hard drives...

i've looked at the shuttle systems, but i've got my heart set on a lappy! I want to be able to do video editing/ music composing on the road (as part of my day job i spend loads of time in hotels). so need something truely portable!
whatever i get, it'll have the radeon 9000 64mb graphics. fortunatley i don't do any 3d, so that should cope fine. (with 1gb ddr ram and an external hd)

re Hi Jim,
yeah i gues that will do just fine. and i gues its pretty anoying to reconnect the plugs and the monitor every time u stop and want to work...
and thats if u are within a couple of feet of an electric plug....
so yeah, lappys rock also
but if u buy a lappy my advice would be not to get one with firewire 400 or usb1 but one with firewire 800 or usb2.
since u allready have your heart set on the graphicscard and the HD wont be the bottleneck...
good luck!!
