Video Output Freeze!

Post by naddyd »

hi there,

I use resolume on my brand new macbook pro 15"
all my clips are MOV 768X576 renderd with dxv codec.

every time i am connected to a projector and i have 3 active layers running simultaneously, the output freezes every 10 minutes or so.
when the output freezes resolume is not responding, and after about a minute it recovers by itself and the video output continues to play.
after another ten minutes the video output freezes again.
if i play only 2 layers then this problem never happens.

as you can imagine, these freezes have been really embarrassing in live shows.

any help will be apreciated,
thanx.

Hey Naddyd

This sounds like your computer is not able to read all the data necessary to play back 3 clips simultaneously. Are you using the internal hard drive, or perhaps one connected via USB?

In general we recommend using an external drive for storage and playback of your clips. Do you have access to an external drive that you can test with? Preferably a 7200rpm or SSD drive, with a FW800 or eSata connection. USB2.0 drives generally don't perform so well.

Hope that helps.

the internal drives are 2,5", which are much more slower than 3,5" or ssd ;)

also, what macbook pro do you have?
the cheaper models with only integrated gpu (geforce 9400 with shared memory) and models with extra gpu and dedicated memory (geforce 9600)
MainSys: Z77 UP5,3570K,32GB Ram,GTX 285, M3 128GB,4x3TB R5@LSI9750
VJSys 1: 990FX UD5,X6 1045T,16GB Ram,GTX970+610+610,M3 128GB,3x1TB R0
MBP 3.1; Schenker A102 (650m) & P702 (675m)

In general the internal drives are not so good for triggering clips from. Besides being smaller, they're also in use by the system to run the applications from.
do you still recommend getting an external ssd drive?
Also, let me make clear that I'm not recommending you to get anything. I'm merely trying to remotely solve an issue you're having, which I *think* may be caused by the internal disk. If you can borrow a FW800 disk or SSD from somewhere to test if that solves your issue, then and only then would I recommend getting a new drive. I'd hate for you to spend your money on something which is not guaranteed to solve your problem.

Anyway, I still hope that solves your issue. If not, let us know and we'll keep trying until we do!
