Alpha Channel doesn't define transparency

Post by wplate »

I have an incoming clip that I want to bring over the outgoing clip using an alpha channel. I have a long history in video production so I know all about alpha channels, so I was expecting that with the layer's blend mode set to "Alpha" and its Video slider all the way up the alpha would define the transparency of the clip in the composite, but this isn't happening. The incoming clip comes on full, obscuring the underlying video.

The 32bit movie I rendered is using the PNG codec with "straight" RGB, not premultiplied.

What am I missing?

Strangely another one of my movies that has an alpha does work as I expect. But both movies show they are Millions+ in QuickTime Player. I'll render some shorter test clips and will post them online if the answer doesn't become immediately obvious.

It was my fault, I forgot to turn off a temporary solid layer in my After Effects comp (note to self: Always make temporary not-to-be-rendered layers Guide Layers so they won't be included in the render!).

Sorry everyone.
