New m15x, but still LOW FPS!

Post by dellusional-viper »

Hi everyone,

My old laptop screen has just died, so I thought perfect time to buy a new laptop.

I found this Alienware m15x for a good price with the following specs:

Intel i7 Q720 1.6 Ghz Quad-Core
4.gb DDR3 RAM
Nvidia GTX 260m 1GB VRam
250GB 7,500rpm SATA HDD

After it arrived, and installed Windows 7 Ultimate x64 with Resolume 3.1.3, and started loading a few 3-4 second clips I bought of Resolume. Running a 640x480 compisition, with 3 layers, 6 videos on the deck, of which 3 are playing, I get a measly 10-12 fps: and thats just connecting it onto 1 monitor at 1024x768 through VGA! I've tried dropping the resolution to 400x300 to see if there would be a jump in the frame rate, but nothing, still 9-13 fps. The only rise in frame rate i get is when I deselect a layer so only 2 layers are playing, then it jumps to about 17fps, then when i deslect another layer it jumps to about 22fps with one running layer.

I can't actually pin-point what would be causing this because with my previous laptop:

A 5 year old AJP:

Intel Core-Duo 2,4 Ghz, 4GB RAM, Nvidia 8800 GTM 512mb VRAM, 360GB SATA HDD.

I was able to run up to 4 decks with about 16: 2s-3min clips, and the only time I got a drop in my frame rate was when I was switching decks, then it would drop from about 26-28fps to about 15fps which wasn't too bad.

If anyone can help me with this that would be AMAZING because I just got this yesterday, but I have a small gig tonight!

Thanks

Oh and I have just installed the Nvidia System Monitor to see how much of the G-Card was being used and its says for playing 2 layers = 8% and 3 Layers = 12%, so it doesnt seem to be running of the card at all!

what codec are your clips? make sure you have a good decompressor installed for your chosen codec - sounds like your running mjpeg on the built in windows decompressor to me.

I'm running the DXV Codec, with Resolume made .mov's.

When you say 'Resolume made .movs', do you mean videos recorded with Resolume's recording function?
