Request: Composition bigger than 4096px

Post by olowski »

Dear devs,
recently i'm working on 360 pano video solution for my live av event. I would like to do it with reso but i need composition wider than 5000px and resolume is limited to 4096. I know i can use 2 machines but this is not solution for me. Is there any way to unlock this limit? Is it opengl max texture size limiting this or something else?
I do not need to use clips wider than 4096, actually i'm using xga clips. What i need is to use them side-by-side in very wide composition. I understand that main comp output is also a texture, but maybe wide comp could be achieved disabling global effects?

from poland with love

you can try to arrange the monitors in 2 or more rows...
an comp effect will not effect that good but it should work i think
4096x1536 would be 8 monitors in 2 rows!
theoretical u can use 4096x3840 for 5 rows which means 20 monitors @ 1024x768

Let me just say that the new Resolume 3.2 is AMAZING! Now with Quartz Composer the whole spectrum has changed. I also would like to see compositions capable to expanding well beyond the 4096px limit.

Cheers!

Hey everyone!

Just a quick note that this is on our to-do list. In future texture size limits will be hardware based, instead of hard-coded.

Will this mean that the image size limit will also be hardware based - the 4096 on images is also restrictive at times. If it can`t be expanded could it be pixel based - thgus say 1024 x 16, 384 - instead of 4096 x 4096 - cheers John McGeoch

Hardware based would be much better ... could really use it, my card can do a max texture size of 8192x8192, all I really need is 6144x768. For now I will have to live with 3840x480. I will try the 3072x1536 vertical split idea though.

Any progress on it?

As for now Resolume is completely unusable for big installations :(
(despite using multiple machines synced which is not always an option)

@Reso Devs: Could You add this function as a "experimental" feauture (switchable in prefs.) or at least point me some place in binaries where i could alternate this value on my own risk?

This is going to be a part of the new features in Resolume 4.

thanks :)

its quite urgent for me. i have a 6x XGA projection to do this summer and i dont want to drop my favourite vj application.
reso is very useful for video mapping, its affordable, and with excellent choice of ffgl plugins its ideal for quick but stable improvisation. regarding complicated setups for architectural projections texture size is the only big lack.

switching to custom build diy software is an option, but it is always at cost of reliability and stability. and stability is a main demand during big public events like videomapping.

so, when r4 will be available?

cheers
