Best codec settings
ive been using cinepack 80% 640x480 keyframe every frame since 1994
but thats mostly for rendered stuff outta max.. i've been playing around with bitrate limits in aftereffects and it doesnt seem to work very well.. i usually set it from 900-1.5k altho when i go and view the properties of a file made with those settings it still spikes up to around 3(meg/sec i believe is the measurement).. this confuses the hell outta me.. to make matters worse adobe premiers engine does something totally diffrent! lol.. anyways it seems to work and play well with those settings or around there
however; most computers i use for resolume are not fast enuff to play without latency at 640x480.. but i still keep my clips that res when i make them. Resolume will play a single stream at 640x480 with a little lag which is tolerable.. but if im really jamming out and using multiple channels then ill drop it down to the default lower res fit to screen and performance is awesome
indeo is 14.4 mil colors?? i never realised cinepak was only 256.. are you sure?

I am curious-you say there is lag with full screen video. What are you using for a computer? I am looking for an app that will play close to DV quality, full screen.
I have a P4 3.06 with a gig of ram, ata 100 dedicated drive and Nvidia fx 5700 video card. What can I expect as far as vid quality from Resolume witha clip or 2 at a time? Most of my footage I have already processed in After Effects and Vegas so I am just mostly chopping it up....the image quality in Arkaos is lacking with any codec I use....What to use?

Dsleep,
I use a P4 2.0 and have no performance problems. Keep in mind that Res is really hard drive dependent, and not 'that' CPU or video card dependent (all things being equal). I use fast drive in a RAID 0 config for max performance. I have also found (much to the chagrin to other posters of this thread) that MidVid is the best codec for Res.
IMO

any update?
Is there a good and final word on what todays best codecs for Resolume are? Specifically I have a low end laptop and a high end desktop and am curious what the ideal codec for clips for each of them would be. I'm guessing .avi files using Indeo are still in vogue generally.
