Network PC Capture

Post by servant812 »

Hi,
I have spent a heap of time researching this but am still lacking a conclusion.

What i want to do is have a pc running a Lyrics program (Presenter 4)
and another pc running resolume avenue.

i want to be able to send the Lyrics output from pc 1 to resolume on pc 2 over the network.

there are great programs for screen capture out there and a few good ones that can input to resolume but none of which can send the signal over network.

We have a system called the Tricaster, which is a video production box and it comes with an app called iVGA.
it sends the screen you select over the network and the tricaster picks it up and outputs it.
we then use the built in keyer to overlay the song lyrics over the video output.

I want to do the same with resolume!!

Hey there

At the moment the technology available is either not sufficient for streaming ucompressed high resolution images over a network, or very expensive to develop and inplement (such as in the case of iVGA). So this feature is not available. Having said that, it has been requested a few times before, and we see the need and functionality of it. It's definitely something we'll keep in mind for future versions.

This is also something that would be really usefull to me.

I have looked at fugstream etc and can't quite get it to work.

I was using a Green Hippo HD at a venue last week and they had a program called Screen Thief which was perfect for pulling in content from another computer onto a layer.
I wasn't so impressed with their GUI though.

I saw the Screen Theif app on the Hippo the other day and thought it was a great idea, at the moment I have to use a scaler to import my VGA Feed..

Has anybody found any third party applications that will work with resolume, as screen thief does with Hippotizer?

a lot of people have been looking for ways of importing extra sources into Avenue, either on the same computer, or thru a network.

I tried this solution, streaming a dv signal thru le network, could not get it to quite function correctly(think i need to get the paid version :( http://www.enosoft.net/products/enodvpr ... _netdv.htm

in any case, there will be a time delay in any kind of signal transmission thru network, (coding, decoding).

as for simple screen capture on pc, i have got the best fps results with xsplit, with is able to transmit not only to a virtual webcam device, but also to stream out to ustream or justin tv, maybe something along that might be used one day to "stream" video into Avenue ?? :?:
desktop: Windows 7 64bit , i7 920 2.66Ghz, 12Gb Ram, GTX 950 2Go, WD Velociraptor 300Go, terratec asio phase 26 usb soundcard & midi,Novation Nocturn controlpad, Akai MPK mini, and soon to come : BCR 2000 :))

*bump*

any "exciting breakthroughs" on the horizon?
This seems to be the "holy grail" solution to those who run laptops and can't use things like the Intensity Shuttle pcie or finicky usb3 ...

If you want to broadcast lyrics perhaps you can do with a low end solution, so..
Give a try to Hmelioff labs VH multi camera studio.. I use it to capture a screen and pipe it into a virtual webcam.. a sort of pseudo-syphon for PC. All this happens in one machine BUT I noticed that multi camera studio can deal with streamed sources.. so you could stream out from VLC and open it as a webcam on the machine running resolume.. does it make sense?

Why not just split the VGA/DVI/HDMI signal of the computer running the tool you want to grab and just capture it in Resolume using a capture card. Much quicker (less latency) en reliable than all these other solutions.
But video over the network is an interesting topic though, so it's worth investigating.

Gefen VGA extenders work great. You can run over CAT5.

I use the long range extenders (up to 330ft). There is bit a latency (less than half a second on a close network, almost a full second connected through a patch bay with other stuff running too). I use them for cameras, TVs, and computers

They also make extenders that run over fiber if you have access to fiber optics.

Or you can use Black Magic converters to run to convert to/from SDI (most tricasters have SDI output, should take advantage of this!). All you need is some RG6 rated cable and you're all set.
