The last time I seriously had time to dig into Resolume and prepare an actual performance Avenue was still 3.0. Or at least that's what I had installed... We're talking this time last year I'd say. During that session it consistently crashed multiple times.
It would mostly happen when I would switch Decks within a Composition. It would beachball for a long while and then I'd have a 1 in 5 chance of it 'poofing' and getting the 'application closed unexpectedly' msg in OSX.
I did a gig Sunday with the newest version and was hoping it was probably fixed by now. But no dice. Same symptoms.
If I remember what I read when I first bought Avenue, I am using the same 1st-gen Macbook Pro you guys used to develop on. It has an ATI GPU. I'm running OSX 10.5.8 on it. The first gig used a combo of DXV and PhotoJPEG Quicktimes. This gig used DXV exclusively.

Still consistent crashes on Macbook Pro
Re: Still consistent crashes on Macbook Pro
Hey Fongaboo
Sorry to hear the problems are still persisting for you. The logfile shows some issues with audio buffering. Are you using audio in your clips, and if so, what codec are you using for the audio?

Re: Still consistent crashes on Macbook Pro
The gig last year I used separate audio and video files. I believe they were uncompressed PCM WAV's...
This gig (the one that corresponds to the log file) I kept the video and audio in one file, mostly because I was doing silent visuals but wanted to have the audio for future use in case I ever used the clips in other VJ software. In this case it was Quicktime with the following specs:
* DXV no alpha channel
* either 640x480 or 320x240 (some of the source videos tiny so I didn't see any reason to scale them during conversion and take up space)
* Linear PCM audio format
* Stereo (L R)
* 44.100khz Rate
* Normal Quality
* 16-bit Sample Size
* Little Endian checked
* Floating Point unchecked
* Unsigned unchecked
The source files used to create the DXV clips from (if that would make any difference) were a mix of:
* Quicktime 720x480 DV codec
* FLV 320x240 (made readable by Quicktime via the Perian plug-in for OSX)
* MP4 320x240
Thanks!

Re: Still consistent crashes on Macbook Pro
Also I would say the duration of the beachball and the probability of subsequent crash seems to be proportionate to the number of video clips in the deck in question.
Re: Still consistent crashes on Macbook Pro
Well, from the looks of it your files are all correct compressed so that can't be it. How many files in the decks are we talking about? Where are they stored? How much disk space do you have left on the storage device?
Re: Still consistent crashes on Macbook Pro
I'm starting to wonder if my issues with Resolume itself and the issues I've posted about DXF codec are one in the same? (viewtopic.php?f=13&t=7072&p=26717#p26717)
The crashes seem to be fairly similar in frequency and manner whether i am VJ'ing or converting videos in any number of programs. So I am starting to wonder if it is the codec itself.
I've since proven its not a problem inherent to my MacBook because I did some conversions on a 2nd-gen MacPro desktop at work and it crashed Final Cut and Compressor numerous times. I also proved that the problem didn't lie with the source files, because I tried first converting them to DV/DVC-PRO codec as an intermediate format. The crashes didn't occur until I was outputting to DXV.
Especially now that I have replicated the problem across hardware, I am finding it difficult to believe I am the only one experiencing these issues. Since this is a moderately expensive program, I am a bit disheartened that (for me) it is still not ready for primetime.
I can get away with using it to do a silent VJ gig (since I just set my desktop to an appropriate wallpaper to cover for the crashes)... but I bought Avenue specifically with the hope of VJ'ing live sets of music videos to audiences. I'm wondering if there is anyway I can get this issue addressed at a higher level.
Thanks so much...

Re: Still consistent crashes on Macbook Pro
have you tried the latest version? i know it has fixed some issues with the dxv codec. may be worth a shot if not. I just got my macbook the other day and im interested in doing what you will be so i think i will run some tests.
hope you get it sorted!

Re: Still consistent crashes on Macbook Pro
As basicproduction mentions, updating to 3.3.1 solves a lot of issues people had with DXV. Be sure to try that out!
