so cinepak is faster and has lower image quality and indeo has superior image quality but takes up to 30% of your processor ...

so which one has the bigger file size / second or per minute?

and with wich type you have to code indeo (or cinepak) is it .mov or .avi? or else ... ?

indeed after testing ideo has much better colors than cinepak
so now, ideo for files where the color is important, and cinepak for others.

i think in vj-ing i'ts not bad when the quality is sometimes bad.
on my pc sometimes the quality is pretty bad, then i wonder how will the quality be on a big screen with projector... will it be even worse??? no!!!!
but the people are further away from the screen... so because of that, they might not see the bad quality. i don't know... never been on a gig... anyone else?

other question, whats faster, usb or firewire??? i've tried both, but i don't see a lot of difference....

its aparently the same decoding speed as indeo, but a bit faster at encoding. it would be interesting to see some comparisions to this codec.

pxl: usb 2 is faster then firewire, but firewire is faster then usb 1.

though firewire can be pluged between two computers and you have a network, which is faster then a cat5 network cable iirc.

midivid is a good codec... i use it on some stuff... downside is it some times produces bright neon green pixels when there are lots of gradient colors. experiment with it.. you can't beat the price... i still perfer indeo xp for most stuff

USB 2.0 vs. Firewire

USB 2.0 has a max data xfer rate of 480 megaBITS per sec while Firewire 1394a is rated at 400 megaBITS per second.

There is a new faster version of Firewire on the horizon. Firewire 1394b is rated at 800 megaBITS per sec. Microsoft is said to be releasing the first set of drivers to support this protocol this fall.

but !!!! firewire guarantees you 400Mbits transferrate; usb2 not (depends on cpu and programms running and stuff);

anyone here accually uses dv-clips (720x576)

cause im just testing if i should go for quality in my next performances. as far as i tested its possible for me to work with to DV-PAL videos at 25 frames at 720x576.

And I'm dubbing wheter to use 200Kilobyte/s or 800 Kilobyte/s like you (Edward).

Can you help me out, cause when I use 200kb/sec with 3 layers of video it slows down dramaticly in Resolume 2.0b.

Have a 1.6M Radeon 9200 64mb videocard with the omega drivers,

maybe it's more likely to use just 1 or 2 layers of video and third for flash?
