Another (but dif) .mov problem

Post by koots55 »

I've had these problems for a while now but was fine with it until now since I am working with much more videos.
When I try to open a .mov file in Resolume, one of two things will happen.

1) Some of the videos I have are downloaded from the web. Which makes them flv files. So then I open them in quicktime and save them as a .mov file. When I open these files in Resolume they play, but entirely to fast. With the sound at a steady high pitched beep.

2) The other videos are premade videos that I export out of FCP. I export them out of FCP as .mov files. When these are opened in Resolume they also play, but the image is completely scattered.

Before, I have worked my way around it by do the same thing to each of these files. Which is open the .mov files in quicktime and "saving them for web". Then I get the "saved for web" file, which is an .m4v, open them in quicktime again and resave them as .mov files. Then everything is ok.

Now that I am dealing with alot more videos this will be a huge hassle. Also the final .mov file that works, ends up being twice as big as the original. I just don't understand why this is happening, since it ends up being a .mov file in the end anyways.

I am using macbook pro. 10.6. Snow Leopard. Resolume 3.2

In order to completely answer your questions, you'd need to give a little more info, such as what codec you are using, and perhaps screenshots of the 'scattered' clips, so we know what you mean by scattered.

For the speeded up clips, are they by any chance set to BPM sync? If the BPM is way off from what Resolume thinks they are, you could try halving it.

Feel free to mail us some example files at support(at)resolume(dot)com!

Here are some screen shots of what is going on. I took a screen shot of my export settings in FCP and a screenshot of what should be a fullscreen resolume output, but is scattered and only takes up half the screen. The other two images are what I get when getting the info for two different videos. The TEST.mov is the one that scatters. The Homeward Bound one, is one of the ones that play to fast. I am relatively new to all this so I dont really know how to see if the movies are set to BPM sync. But even when I mess with the speed settings on the resolume play it doesnt really change much. And, the sound is still just a beep, with changing tones relative to the speed i put in.

The problem is indeed codec related. You are using NTSC-DV in one file, and FLV and MP3 in the other. None of those codecs really are recommended for VJ'ing with Resolume, or with other apps for that matter. I suggest taking a look at the preparing media section of the manual.

Compression is an annoying, but intrinsic part of VJ'ing, so if you have any questions after reading the manual, feel free to ask!
