masking doesn't work

hi

I'm trying the masking function, but it doesn't work

Tried png with white squares, red squares. Jpg with white and red squares..) but the video keeps just playing without the masking.

Is this about R2.41 or Avenue (since this was posted in the 2.41 area of the forum)?

mask should be transparent, maybe black or white background also works but try is without background!
