atioglxx.dll causes crash while recording, every time

Post by galmoer »

My last resort,
working with the trial-version of resolume 3 i became so addicted to the new workflow i'm almost certain i will buy this package. But not before i tackle this problem i'm experienicing with the software. I have created a song in Ableton and i use the midi-output to trigger clips in Resolume. While playing live everything is great. I get around 60fps minimum! (working on 1280/720[!!!]) Using 4 layers and several effects.
So far so brilliant.
Everything changes as soon i start the record button. The first 30 seconds all goes well, but suddenly a freeze and resolume crashed. Every time. Always around 30 seconds after i start recording.
When i monitor the cpu, the disk i\o, video-memory, and so on, i see nothing disturbing. Cpu is limited to 50% usage, disks ( all in RAID0) show hardly any activity and the RAM (8GB) don't even reach 50%. Im convinced it should work!
When i check the logs, i find that the atioglxx.dll is causing a problem. I found out it is responsible for the openGL rendering, but that doesnt make anything more clear to me...

What i've done so far:
  • replace primary HD's. (again RAID 0)
  • update all drivers relevant, all manual all from direct suppliers.
  • changed every possible setting in CCC, trying all possible combinations, if relevant.
  • fresh install of win7
what i didn't do yet;
=replace PSU (i have doubts....[cooler master real pro 1000])

Im running the next setup;
Intel core 2 quad q6700 @ 3.2Ghz
8Gb ram OCZ
asus hd5870
asus p5q pro MB
2* Raid0 + 1*single disk
akai lpd8
m-audio USB midi sport 2*2
1* tft monitor 1680*1050 and 1* CRT 1024*768

I dont believe i'm forgetting anything, but if i do, slap me please.

Hey Galmoer

Thanks very much for the detailed info! At first glance it looks as if everything is functioning correctly. so the problem shouldn't be your setup. Although recording for an extended period at 720p is a strain on any machine, Resolume shouldn't crash while doing so. I'll make a support ticket for you, and hopefully we can nail this issue down.

Thank you, im really curious as to what can cause this error. I see I forgot to mention that recording on 640*480 or any other resolution causes the same error.
As capable as my system looks i'm still under the impression it's hardware related, although i dont get any errors on other software. This week my PSU will arrive, and I have some other ideas as to checking hardware components. I will keep you updated!

First off I will try running the openGL benchmark i found last night. http://www.ozone3d.net/gpu_caps_viewer/ Set everyhing to max and see what happens after about a minute or so. (my guess is it will work allright, but we'll see..)

I have the same problem, using a PC i7 3Ghz, 4 Gb RAM, Ati 5770 1Gb... I tried other PC: Quad Core 2.4 Ghz, 4 Gb RAM, Ati 4670 1Gb, and everything goes right... please help us...

@Hadesbry

sorry i didn't post any reaction earlier about this problem. It seems i have figured something out. Are you by any chance using AVCHD footage, that you convert to the DXV-codec?

With several programs including open-source vj-programs, i get unexpected results when the original footage was AVCHD. Even when it is converted.

For Resolume, the solution was to me, to convert the footage to, for example, quicktime (animation-codec) and after that convert it to DXV. Then the footage seems to hold. And i get no crashes.
I've tried several troubleshooting options and every time i come down to the footage being the problem.

I believe the 5XXX serie ATI-cards are running openGL4.1 And the 4XXX series a lower version. So, there maybe a bug within the OPENGL-lib.
Have you allready tried with the latest ATI-driver? 11.2?
