some questions

Post by karlkrach »

hi folks,
i'm no vj but do intent to use resolume for a rather specific installation setup and therefore have some quite specific questions... maybe someone could give me a hand? : )

- basically i will be midi-triggering still images only. on trigger they should appear, stay on the screen for 2-3 seconds and then dissappear automatically again. is it possible to link this sort of playing behaviour to still images?

- if this should not be possible, i would convert all the images into movies of the desired length. since i will have quite a bunch of these: is there a way to default the playing behaviour to "play once" on importing new clips?

- and some other question: it would be cool if there would be some random feature, eg. on trigger x, show randomly one of these five clips. is anything like this possible?

any help is really higly appreciated, thanks a lot in advance!

er and... actually one more question: is it possible to either specify a background colour (instead of black) or to lock a layer so you can't switch to it (because then i would just put a colour in the background and lock it)

any help is really, really, really appreciated! :)

Hi karl,
If you want the image to fade out, you can right-click on "opacity" in clip properties and select "timeline", "BPM-sync", or "Composition beats" to animate the opacity in or out over time. Reverse the "playhead" control (click the left arrow instead of the right arrow) that now appears next to opacity to have the opacity animate from 100% down to 0%, and adjust the speed (or number of beats) as desired.
i don't think there is a layer-lock feature, but if you don't assign a trigger to anything on the layer other than your background image, there is no reason why it wouldn't simply stay in place. put your background layer below your triggered-images layer, and you can't miss.
as for random selection of clips via midi trigger, i am not aware of anything as such, but you may want to look at gpvillamil's copilot patch which will select random clips automatically, but not via midi trigger that i know of. on the upside copilot will allow you to set this behavior for your triggered images layer, and leave your background layer simply "playing" your background image.
hope this is helpful!
