Best USB2/Firewire Capture Card?

Hey all, am using a BlackMagic intensity with my media server, but also have a laptop for smaller gigs and am looking for some recommendations for a STABLE capture card for a camera on the DJ - Just a single source will do.

I know there's a lot out there, but am looking for recommendations based on stabitity in Resolume.

Hi,

on a Windows laptop I've used also very cheap video capture usb cards. Chinese Stuff, they're all the same, also 12€. No problem. 640x480, stable, good response , minimum delay.
The very same card on a Macbook Pro didn't work.
I've tried, in an Apple Store, the Elgato Capture Card: Resolume don't see it.

For your DJ you can also use a Webcam with an Usb cable till 10 meters. Low Fi but it works.
Or, as like as I did in a dance show, iphone connected via Wifi and with Mobiola Webcamera App.
Not so fluid but cool. With an arm band case, dancer move and take video sent live on screen.

Does anyone know about a cheap video capture card working on Resolume for Mac? Cheap=from 30 to 99€?

I’d also be interested in a solution for this – I’ve tried two cheap Chinese USB capture cards (EasyCAP and another with 4 channels) and both are awful with Windows 7. The drivers, after hours of fiddling around to get them installed, bluescreen an otherwise totally stable computer every now and then.

I also find that with some cameras the signal is too messy for the cards – they prefer to show nothing rather than noise sometimes.

There seems to be a big gap between pro solutions that cost a lot and the very low end USB dongles.

A friend suggested a Firewire Sony video camera (he uses DCR PC120E), apparently it does quite a nice job. Not sure if it would be picked up by Resolume though. I expect older models can be bought for not too much cash.

Well,
I used both capture card you told about: easycap and the 4 channel (even if it can be used just one of them) and I had no problem. Windows XP and Vista. You just need to properly install proper drivers.
I haven't tried on Windows7.
