I want to buy me a videomixer, but I`m not sure which type of mixer does make sense.

Maybe you can answer me some questions about this stuff.

First of all, what`s the difference between a digital mixer and an analoge maschine?

I only need a system to mix/ cross fade two pcs together, whitout any special effects, like colour balance and so on;
(two videosignals in, cross fader, and one output to the beamer).
I`ve read about a mixer _edirol v 4, but it`s shitty expensive.

Can`t I also use an analog video cutting system, like vivanco vcr 3055 to crossfade between two signals?,
or doesn`t it work?

I`ve also heard about small systems, where you can switch between three video signals, problem is, that you can`t fade!!!

It will be nice, if some of you can answer me!

Thanx a lot

greetings

manuel

If your doing the mixer thing then you want a reasonable piece of kit, I'd still go for the V4, well in fact I own one. But its not just about the fx, you can tap the beat and let it go, with masks and wipes. Also if you ever chromakey, the V4 gives good clean edges. And makes previewing you sources easy before playing them out to the world.

Its a piece of kit that is essential if you are planning on building your setup, after all you can easily have 2 pc's, running through a video monitor before the mixer, so you have full previews from each box, then another monitor for additional sources straight from V4, then you still have 2 free inputs, which could be a live cam and a feedback loop.

Obviously its not the only mixer, and if you want a good review section, look at the hardware reviews on vjcentral.com, you'll find all the mixers listed. If budget really is an issue, go for something like an old mx30 (2 sources), however trying to find a reasonable priced secondhand mixer is never easy, after all there are a hundred and one vj's looking for them. One interesting thing was edirol were planning a release of a kind of stripped down v4, but thats being talked about on VJF, just have a search.

I know little crossfaders seem ideal, but depends on if you think you'll still be vjing in 6 months, if so, then start investing.

Hola manuel!
