newbie question on connecting 2 computers

I’ve been using Resolume Avenue for doing some recorded mixes, but a couple days ago a friend of mine who is a dj asked me if I could help him host a party but we don’t really know how to sync our computers. He is using Traktor over his laptop and also uses DMX to control lights and stuff like that; I’ve been looking through the forums and the manual and I’ve found out that linking our computers can be done over either DMX or OSC, but for what I get in order to fully use DMX controls I need to acquire a plug-in so I’m not really fond of that alternative.

I’ve seen that other guys have asked somewhat the same question and most of the times they’ve been referred to the Controlling Resolume Avenuewith Ableton Live tutorial, but this is where I get mixed up: for what I get on the tutorial, the control is done over MIDI not over OSC, and if I understand correctly MIDI is sent via a MIDI cable (which I don’t think is able to connect to computers), so how am I exactly am supposed to do that?

Forgive me if this is an obvious question but I’ve never done something like this.

There are a variety of ways of connecting two computers via midi. You can use a midi2usb interface, or connect both with MidiOverLan via a wired or wireless network. VJforums.com is a good place to ask more about this.
