Sync Problem With Ableton Live 8

Hi all,

Great software, I am testing Avenue 3 before buying. However, I think I am mising some points to make it work properly.

Here' s what I do and want to do:
1) I'm a musician/dj and using Logic Pro since 4 years, on stage for some songs to show lyrics (synced) on an external display to our vocalist with Logic's "Marker Text Window" feature. In example; I create markers for every song like "Intro, Verse A1, Pre-Chorus 1, Chorus 1, Bridge, and so on..." Every marker is located 1 bar before it's exact point in the original song. So, the vocalist can see what is coming next...

2) Logic is not a dj DAW so I'm using Ableton Live for my dj sets.

3) Ableton doesn't have a feature like Logic's Marker Text Window. So, I made lyric videos with no audio, length matched with the instrumental song. I've done them in iMovie and exported as .mov files. I have all the songs' lyric videos in my set. And trigger them from Ableton's MIDI signal in Avenue 3.

4) I' ve created a MIDI track and send it's output to IAC Device (enabled)

5) In Avenue I made the preference settings as mentioned on official website.

6) I can trigger lyric videos and show them on an external display, thanks to resolume.

7) But for a while, the lyrics are getting out of sync and I think I've tried all the possibilites but couldn't succeeded...

8) Every clip's Beat Snap is set to "None" (because IAC Device handles this), Clip Target is "Global" and Clip Triggerstyle is "Piano".

9) Clip's Transport Setting is "Timeline"

10) When I play a scene in Ableton (audio clip with it's unique MIDI note for triggering video), it shows and plays lyric's video clip. But, after a while it is getting out of sync. I also tried to export the lyric video with muted audio and set the Transport Setting to Auto BPM sync. But it still misses the sync.

I appreciate for any help, we've an important gig on this Saturday night. I need to solve this immediately...

Im not a ableton user so wouldnt be able to answer the questions but i would hold out on buying presently as Resolume 4 is about to drop in the next few months. Sorry to be of no help but i think a lot of issues will have been addressed

Hey Neticun

For perfect sync, you'll want to send the BPM clock out of Live as well, let Resolume listen to it, and then set your clips to BPM sync, set for the correct amount of beats.

I've already sent the BPM clock out of Live and made Resolume to listen to it. They' re in sync. But the problem is video clips are getting out of sync for a while. For syncing video clips to BPM sync, they need to be have their audio file. So I tried and set the correct amount of beats as well as audio beats but, no changes... Still out of sync for a while.

I am sure that I miss something, or this problem can be a huuuuuge bug.

Hey Neticun

You can manually change the playback mode from timeline to BPM sync in the top right hand corner of the clip properties panel. If you know the amount of beats your clip is supposed to play back in, and set it correctly, it shouldn't get out of sync.

If you suspect that something is not right in your particular setup, it's better to contact us directly at mail-at-resolume-dot-com, if possible with your project file and an example clip.

Thanks very much for this, your setup is becoming clearer. Still, this does not help us figure out when, how and why things are getting out of sync.
