OSC output setting not kept?

Post by gpvillamil »

I'm trying to use OSC output from Resolume on one machine to control Resolume on another, and getting stuck.

Basically the controlling machine is running Arena 4 beta 2 on Windows 7, and the target machine is running Arena 4 beta 2 on Mac OS X.

I can control the target machine from an iPad with TouchOSC and another Mac using the Max4Live patches.

However, when I enable OSC output on the Windows machine, the checkbox setting is not kept. When I close the preference dialog and re-open it, OSC output is disabled again.

Any idea of what is going on?

This is a known bug, and on the list to be fixed.

Hi!

Recently I have to sync to Mac running Resolume Arena Beta 2 with Touch OSC, just play/stop. It's possible to control two different machines (Mac Snow Leopard) with one TouchOSC (Ipad2)??

I don't need any osc output in Arena right? Just osc input working.

Thanks for any help ( I can't test until next week but I'm wondering a lot about this)

I believe you can use your local network broadcast address.

For example, if you are using a home network, and your local IP address looks like 192.168.0.123 or something like that, try using using 192.168.0.255 as the target address (defined in TouchOSC). Both computers should receive the packets.

Alternatively, have TouchOSC send a message to one instance of Resolume, and then have that instance send OSC out to the other.

Hi! Thanks for reply so fast.

I was trying the two ways you told me, without success.

I'm in the same wifi network for two Mac, I tried in ad-hoc config also. I put TouchOSC host in 192.168.0.255, but, in that way I could't connect to Resolume Arena (if I use one of the mac's ip works fine), but, when I try to send resolume(1) osc output to resolume(2) osc input nothing happens.

I'm using port 7000 no bundles to recieve osc from touch OSC (ok), and port 9000 (no bundles) to output osc from resolume1 to 9000 input port (no bundles) in resolume2 (not working).

I think I have the same problem as you in OSC preferences, the setting not kept after closing the menu.

Also I was trying with OSCulator to send MIDI via network with IAC OSX driver. I achieve to recieve midi in the second mac, but not to recieve midi in resolume (virtual midi input appears in resolume midi preferences, but mapping doesn't work). I'm really stuck right now.

You have to look at the existing IP address on the LAN, and then only change the last part to 255.

For example, if the IP address is 10.0.0.124 for one of the computers, then the address you need to enter in TouchOSC is 10.0.0.255.

You could try entering 255.255.255.255 as the target address in TouchOSC, that is the general broadcast address.

Admittedly, I have only been able to make OSC work reliably on my home network, or an ad-hoc network. I have had difficulties on networks which I do not personally manage.
