It seems that "Black Level Compensation" is not applied to the "Soft Edge" area. I would have expected the compensation to also fade out in the soft edge area.

Black level compensation is actually not supposed to compensate in the areas where projectors overlap. Even with soft edge turned on, in that area, the projectors will project twice as much 'black light' as in the other areas. The only way to compensate for this, is to make the other areas slightly brighter as well, which is what black level compensation is for.
