Hey guys,
I'm running a Macbook Pro for work. Its a 2.33 core 2 duo with 2 GB of ram.
I notice that my activity monitor is taking 85-90% of the CPU. Sometimes it goes up over 100% (that's just with Avenue open and nothing else!). Meanwhile SMC control tells me it's running at about 70 degrees (150 F) Celsius.
Any thoughts or suggestions on how to improve this other than upping the RAM?
Normal activity monitor levels/temp?
Re: Normal activity monitor levels/temp?
hi ponyboy,
if you look at the activity monitor, is avenue uses your resources?

I think this shows you what's happening.

Re: Normal activity monitor levels/temp?
I should clarify... the above images show Avenue/Resolume open. And that's literally all it's doing. It's not playing any clips or anything.
Re: Normal activity monitor levels/temp?
very strange indeed....
on my mbp with 2,2ghz core2duo i don't get more than 30% (doing nothing) to 60% (playing some layers with effects, no outputscreen) cpu usage, so there is just 1/3 cpu power used.
which OSX version you have? (here i have 10.6.8)
since 10.6 osx should handle multi core cpu's better, so maybe thats a hint
i have installed Fan Control, here you can adjust the Fan Speed and Temperature-Low/High, maybe helps a bit with your Temperature
but it's not normal that the cpu is used that heavy.
any other special hardware attached?
maybe try to delete the resolume preferences files in your document folder... perhaps somethink went wrong here!?
maybe try to start resolume and locate the logfile and send it to the resolume team.
I also got CPU Performance Problems, but i think it's the CPU
it's an Socket 939 AMD X2 4200+ or so .... he gets nearly full loaded (over 90% on both cores!) when playing some layers and effects
this happened in windows xp... maybe win7 runs better!

Re: Normal activity monitor levels/temp?
I didn't think it was normal either... but considering that it's a "work" laptop, God knows what's been done to it
Although I would rather the program run more efficiently. I've noticed a very slight "lag" or skipping if you will on some of the video clips I've tried to output to the projector (the only hardware hooked up the laptop). Running 10.6.6 on it (I think that's SnowLeopard). Hmm...

Re: Normal activity monitor levels/temp?
Bump.
Turns out the laptop is a bit older than I thought... a 2007 model. It can only take 3gb of RAM (max)... so I'll be replacing one of the 1gb with a 2gb stick later in the week and hope that helps some. I told my boss that ideally I should be running 6-8 gb of RAM for this software. We'll see if we end up getting a new computer eh
