The problem with configurable clip label colours is that we currently use colour to highlight the currently playing clip. So if you can assign all sorts of colours to the clip label then you actually loose the ability to quickly see which clip is playing.

It might not have to be a big problem if we pick a few subdued colours and then a bright one for the active clips but we'll need to have a look at this later when we start the design of the resolume 5 gui.

In Ableton Live the colour coding of clips is much more important to identify clips. In Resolume you also have the clip thumbnail image to help you distinguish one clip from another.

Great, I know that for `straight VJing` grouping is not so crucial and that`s fine, but for other uses of Resolume like running a show that`s `live`, rather than strict `press button cue` as in conventional show control via a lighting desk, then being able to group and see where you are at a moment`s notice is pretty essential. I much prefer `live` control of media rather than cue control and I love Resolume, however frustratingly it doesn`t quite do either as well as it could. For `live` control the inability to visually label and group means devising some other method of quickly identifying where you are in the show and for cue control the Auto sequence function does not have Play controls - stop, next clip etc

Both these features - `colour grouping / labelling` and the ability to press button cue to next clip would be fantastic additions to making Resolume an even more brilliant show control / installation control / live control program. I am still using it as such, as well as Vjing, but these additions would certainly help a lot and the seconds that it takes to see which is the next clip to play because the labels are all the same colour can seem an awful long time on stage - many thanks for reply - John McGeoch

When you press the 'play forward' of the autopilot twice, it will jump to the next autopilot action. Don't know if this is quite what you're looking for, but handy to know either way.

As a workaround, I have once abused the clip names to identify clips.

We'll have another look at clip colours when we dive into version 5.

Thanks guys - the autopilot tip is a good one and yes what i`m looking for, dedicated button better though. Re colours - I agree that subdued colours that brighten for selected would work, this is how after effects does it, although to be honest I would even like another level with after effects, perhaps a line of dots through the colour because just selected and unselected is a narrow choice. And yep creative with names and extra pics can work and although you can indeed see the thumbnails and names in Resolume which is great and very intuitive, the thumbnails acan be very diverse and don`t really help to present a picture of the whole show or indeed any one section of a show. I am really keen on prepped but `live` shows and for this to succeed at a decent level there has to be more than just a deck full of diverse thumbnails, you have to be able to look away and come back to the relevant point very quickly. I have done numbered jpegs before now running on its own layer above the play layers. Tried lots, but just thought that coloured labels would be very handy in different sorts of groupings and linkages - thanks for taking the time to respond - best wishes John McGeoch
