I'm already talking with someone at resolume about this, but thought I'd post my experience with AMD's new 7970.
I bought a Sapphire HD 7970 specifically to run a 2x 1920x1080 butted output with one GUI display.
A step up from using two above-average nvidia cards to one powerful ati card with 3 outs (or 6).
Problem is, setting the comp size to 3840x1080 crashes Arena (4.0.1 and 4.0.0) and usually the PC too.
Various other high resolutions also cause the crash, which sometimes shows up as WDM.exe crashing, or 'display drivers have crashed and recovered'.
Tried the latest AMD 8.921.0.0 and the latest from sapphire, 8.921.5
There's also a faint squeal when it's under load. Love it.
I'll try returning the card, I think.

Re: Sapphire HD 7970 hi-res crashes
I've got an older ATI video card, the HD5870 Eyefinity 6, and I just tested loading the 3840x1080 comp size, and everything works.
I'm outputting via startech miniDP - VGA adapters, and not using Eyefinity.

Re: Sapphire HD 7970 hi-res crashes
We had similar problems with the ATI 6990 (i need to double check the number) crashing or displaying white. We think it has something todo with it being a dual GPU card. Is the Sapphire HD 7970 also a dual GPU card?
Tests are in the planning to see what we can do about it. Although it seems like driver issue there might be something we can do about it.

Re: Sapphire HD 7970 hi-res crashes
I was gonna buy two of those 7970s for my new system as well, now I'm not so sure…
Or maybe your problem is already resolved?
Any information would be great.
Anyway, good luck!

Re: Sapphire HD 7970 hi-res crashes
Something that came up a couple of times when the system didn't completely crash was a windows notification of DWM crashing. I sort of overlooked it... ahem... until Bart pointed it out to me. My bad troubleshooting.
I disabled DWM (Desktop Window Management) from Services (startup mode) and stopped it.
I can now load a 3840x1080 comp. Yay.
Strangely the card doesn't seem much better than using two 460 GTX cards. There's a huge slowdown when switching decks and (probably not surprising) big slowdown when triggering a column of three 3840x1080 clips. Perhaps I am asking too much. This is after 5 minutes of having it working.
One more issue is 'coil whine' - a loud electrical buzz when the GPU is under load. This problem and the meh performance might mean I return it tomorrow...

HD 7970 is not a dual GPU according to this: http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/AMD/HD_7970/ (chart at bottom - very scientific looking)edwin wrote:We think it has something todo with it being a dual GPU card. Is the Sapphire HD 7970 also a dual GPU card?

Hi,
is the Resolume/ATI 6990 problem solved?
Because it seems that 6990 is faster/better performance than 7970…

Re: Sapphire HD 7970 hi-res crashes
Hey Resolume....
silimar problems here!!
I'm using a 7970M in my laptop....with activated DWM (Desktop Window Management / "Aero") Resolume ist not able to display composions with more than 800x600 px properly. There are also some grafic troubles inside of the resolume GUI...
...when I disable DWM vom the windows services...resolume runs good ..but causes a massive tearing effect.
....I cannot work with this.
Any tests or ideas? pleaaase help

EDIT//
When I rescale the preview area inside the resolume gui a bit bigger....the representation looks right. Seems to be a scale bug?!
